I don’t have to be a BJP supporter to question Umar Khalid’s ideology.

He described Kashmir as being under “Indian occupation”. He praised Burhan Wani, a Hizbul Mujahideen commander, as someone who “lived a free man, died a free man”. He was also associated with organising the JNU event against Afzal Guru’s execution.

Yet he is celebrated as a nationalist and intellectual.

Since when did being articulate become proof of sound ideology? Questioning the government is your right. But the people you glorify, the causes you defend and the words you choose deserve scrutiny too. A polished image should never exempt anyone from hard questions.
