Speaker Ayambem inspects famous Sweet Mother Street, Other road constructions in Ikom

Earlier today, the Honorable Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chief Elvert Ayambem inspected ongoing road network constructions around Ikom metropolis.

Speaker Ayambem who made a robust tour of the projects however centered interest, prioritizing the famous sweet mother street which was abandoned and left in a deplorable state for many years.

Speaker Ayambem expressed deep appreciation to Governor Bassey Otu for adhering to the yearnings of the people of Ikom over the impassible state of the famous street. He added that sweet mother street is synonymous to Ikom itself— as it serves as the nexus for economic viability of the commercial hub of Cross River central.

Speaker Ayambem however conveyed the expectations of the people-centric leader, Gov. Bassey Otu— widely known for his administrative excellence, as he urged contractors to deliver quality roads that reflects the internationality of the People First administration.

Speaker Ayambem was accompanied by the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts and member representing Yala 1 State Constituency, CRSHA, Hon. Brian Odey.

People who live in Lagos and Abuja all their lives do not understand Nigeria

I have seen bad governance affect people a lot in real time

Here is an example

If you used to travel by road from Abuja to Calabar or Uyo from 2006 - 2012, you will know that the Gboko-Ogoja route was the best route

And you will know that we used to always stop at Ogoja to eat. And there is this main fuel station we stopped. But there's one station before that main one where the food was better and cheaper

The owner is a couple, the man's name is Joshua. They enjoyed mad traffic and sold out 24/7.

I used to direct buses and customers to his shop anytime I arrive there and he will give me food for free with fresh palm wine

Ogoja was booming with business. The money made there became so huge that they started experiencing robberies of mad intensity. There was money there.

At some point I began nursing a dream of buying land or leasing land there for highway food business.

Guess what happened
Under GEJ, the roads from Bekwara began to go bad, no attention.

Under Buhari the roads died and the worst was now the roads from Ogoja to Ikom. You can stay on the road for days.

Armed Robberies went up. Every night at some point.

Drivers stopped passing there. All the businesses went down. Joshua called me some years back asking me to help him with an opportunity in Abuja

That's bad governance and its effects..

Kogi, Hunan Partnership Takes Off With Agric Exchange Programme

Partnership agreements for social and economic development between the Kogi State Government and the government of Hunan Province in China has commenced with the successful completion of a three-week agricultural training programme for lecturers under the Lecturers/Students Exchange Programme.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who disclosed this while receiving the first batch of participants, said the programme represents the first visible dividends of the Kogi–Hunan partnership, which covers agriculture, mining, industrialization and will deliver developmental strides across different sectors of the state’s economy.

He explained that the training at the Hunan Agricultural University, Furong District, Changsha City on Heavy Metal Control and Prevention in Paddy Fields was in response to a request he made during his official visit to Hunan Province earlier this year under the mutual economic cooperation agreement with the People’s Republic of China.

“This initiative has equipped our lecturers with cutting-edge knowledge and innovative strategies to manage heavy metal contamination in rice cultivation, which is highly relevant to Kogi State's agricultural landscape. It is the beginning of many more exchange programmes to be facilitated by the state government,” he stated.

Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging the partnership to unlock Kogi’s vast agricultural and mineral potential, foster industrial growth, and drive sustainable development.

In their separate remarks, Dr. Ajayi Joshua and Mr. Sadiq Fatihu, both of the Faculty of Agriculture, Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), described the training as an eye-opening experience.

Dr. Joshua explained that the programme broadened their understanding of sustainable agricultural practices and exposed them to new research avenues and collaboration opportunities with Hunan Agricultural University.

Similarly, Mr. Fatihu noted that the training has given them the capacity to adapt new technologies to local needs, fostering opportunities in agritech, sustainable farming, and food safety while laying the foundation for policy-driven improvements in agriculture and the environment.

Both lecturers pledged to translate the insights gained into practical action that will enhance food safety, improve public health, and position Kogi State as a leader in sustainable agriculture.

The exchange programme, which falls under the broader China–Africa Economic and Trade Promotion (CAETP) and a Sister-City collaboration agreement, is expected to unlock further opportunities for research, agritech investment and more exchange programmes between Kogi State institutions and universities in Hunan Province.
