As an Ex-Muslim, let me explain a rabbinic mystery that points straight at the Trinity I used to mock.

The most important prayer in Judaism is the Shema: “Hear O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.” Deuteronomy 6:4.

I used to quote this AGAINST Christians. “See? God is ONE!”

But here’s what I didn’t know. The Hebrew word for “one” there is echad.

And echad isn’t always a solitary one. When the Bible says a man and wife become “one flesh” — that’s echad. Genesis 2:24. Two becoming a unity.

When the people acted “as one man” — echad. A unified many.

There’s a different Hebrew word for absolute, solitary oneness — yachid.

And God did NOT use it in the Shema.

He chose echad. Compound unity. Plural oneness.

So it flipped on me…

The verse I used to disprove the Trinity was secretly the door to it.

And in Genesis, God says “Let US make man in OUR image.” Genesis 1:26. Us. Our. From the very first chapter.

I was using the oneness of God to fight the Gospel.

But His oneness was never the flat, solitary kind.

It was always rich enough to hold a Father, a Son, and a Spirit.

John the Baptist sees Jesus walking toward him. And he says something theoretically impossible.

“He comes after me, but He outranks me, because He was BEFORE me.” John 1:15

That cannot mean age, cos John is six months older than Jesus and he knows it, everyone does. “Before me” cannot be chronological in human terms, it certainly has to be ontological. John isn’t confused. He’s testifying to Jesus’ pre-existence.

Now hold that next to what John says later.

“No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”
John 1:18

Read that again slowly.

“No one has ever seen God”. The Father is invisible, unapproachable and unseen by human eyes.

So there’s obviously a problem, the Old Testament is saturated with people seeing and hearing YHWH. Abraham eats with Him. Jacob wrestles Him. Moses speaks to Him face to face. Isaiah sees Him on a throne. So it’s either John is wrong, or something deeper is happening here.

Enter the ‘Angel of YHWH’.

This figure is not a created messenger running errands. We know this cos He speaks as YHWH and acts as YHWH. He says, “I brought you up out of Egypt. I swore. I will never break my covenant.” That is very direct divine self-identification, not delegated speech which we typically see with Messengers innit. In fact, when people encounter Him, they fear death because they believe they have seen God, and the text never corrects them.

But it gets even stranger. In Zechariah 1, The Angel of YHWH is standing among the ‘myrtle’ trees. He receives reports from other angels. Then He prays:

“O LORD of hosts, how long will You have no mercy on Jerusalem?”

He is interceding to YHWH, basically pleading. And YHWH answers Him with “gracious and comforting words.”
But immediately after, the Angel turns and speaks in the first person as YHWH:

“I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem… I will return to Jerusalem with mercy.”

Pause there lol.

He prays to YHWH, He is comforted by YHWH, then He speaks as YHWH???

It looks confusing at first but with a little thinking you see that what is going on is distinction without division and identity without collapse.

This is the Son interceding before the Father while remaining fully YHWH Himself. Long before Bethlehem, long before the cross, the relationship already exists. And that’s why John opens his Gospel the way he does:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God.”

I read always like to see the Greek rendering and the Greek is “pros ton theon”, not mere proximity, but active, personal, face-to-face communion. The Word wasn’t simply alongside God. He was eternally oriented toward Him, in relationship with Him.

And so suddenly the Old Testament makes sense. If the Father is invisible and unapproachable, then every visible, audible, relational manifestation of YHWH is God revealing God through His eternal Word; the Son.

Bethlehem wasn’t God becoming visible for the first time. It was the One who had always made Him known choosing not to withdraw. The incarnation didn’t introduce something new, it simply refused to leave.

What Satan didn’t realize is that from the very beginning, God had already drawn up the redemption plan, sealed it, password-protected it, and hid it inside prophecies. The devil skimmed the notes and completely missed the point..

It wasn’t until Jesus died and rose again that Satan went, “Wait… I’ve been outplayed..” 😤

So what did he do next? He panicked and started rolling out knockoff religions, same packaging, different ingredients. He borrowed the God-idea from the Bible, made it look almost identical, then swapped truth for distortion and removed the redemption plan entirely.

And voilà… here we are today.

A man was strangled for a Christmas present.

Then burned.

His crime?

He translated the Bible into English.

1536. A prison courtyard in Belgium.

William Tyndale kneels in the dirt.

He's been there over a year. Betrayed by a friend. Arrested for heresy. Stripped of his priesthood in a public ceremony designed to humiliate him.

The executioner steps forward.

Rope around the neck.

Twist.

Then they set his body on fire.

His last words, shouted loud enough for the crowd to hear:

"Lord, open the King of England's eyes!"

Here's what they don't teach you:

In 1536, Scripture belonged to the priests.

Latin only.

If you wanted to know what God said, you asked a man in robes. You paid for the privilege. You believed whatever interpretation he handed you.

Tyndale said no.

He said a plowboy in a field should read the same words as the Pope in Rome.

That sentence cost him everything.

For twelve years he lived as a fugitive.

Fled England. Hid in Germany. Translated in secret. Smuggled Bibles in bales of cloth.

Every copy he printed was illegal.

Every copy that reached English shores was burned.

And still they came.

The Church hunted him like an animal.

They finally caught him through betrayal.

A man he trusted turned him over for money.

Sound familiar?

Here's the part that wrecked me:

Two years after Tyndale was strangled and burned, King Henry VIII authorized an English Bible in every church in England.

Eighty percent of it came from Tyndale's translation.

The King James Version on your shelf?

Tyndale is the foundation.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son..."

That's Tyndale.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God..."

Tyndale wrote that in English while hiding from men who wanted him dead.

His prayer was answered.

The King's eyes were opened.

The book he died for became the most published book in human history.

And it's sitting on your nightstand.

Unopened.

A man was strangled and burned so your family could read Scripture in English.

When's the last time you opened it?

“The New Testament Writers Never Met Jesus; Therefore the Gospel Is Lost”

A Muslim claim examined, answered, and debunked.
1. The Claim Is Historically False
A. Several New Testament authors did meet Jesus personally

1. Matthew — Direct disciple; eyewitness.
2. John — Direct disciple; closest disciple; eyewitness.
3. Peter — His teachings undergird Mark’s Gospel; eyewitness.
4. James — Brother of Jesus; leader of the Jerusalem church; eyewitness of the resurrection.
5. Jude — Brother of Jesus; eyewitness.
6. Mark — Early disciple, companion of Peter; wrote Peter’s eyewitness account.
7. Luke — Companion of Paul; interviewed eyewitnesses directly (Luke 1:1–4).

This alone destroys the claim that “none of the writers ever met Jesus.”

B. The claim only succeeds by ignoring… well… history.

The NT was written between AD 45–90, within a single generation of the events.

This is why even atheist historians like Bart Ehrman and non-Christian scholars affirm:

“The New Testament contains the earliest and most reliable sources for the historical Jesus.”

This is not Christian bias; this is consensus.

2. The Claim Is Textually Ignorant (About the Qur’an)

Islam depends on the integrity of previous Scriptures.

The Qur’an repeatedly affirms:
The Torah is God’s word (3:3; 5:43).
The Psalms are God’s word (4:163).
The Gospel is God’s word (5:46; 57:27).
No one can change God’s word (6:115; 10:64; 18:27).
Christians must judge by the Gospel they have (5:47).
Jews must judge by the Torah they have (5:43).
Muhammad was told to ask Christians if he doubts the revelation (10:94).

Islam has no doctrine of Bible corruption in the Qur’an.

Every verse about “tampering” refers to:
Misinterpretation
Hiding
Misreading
But NOT textual corruption

Thus, Muslims who claim “the Bible is corrupted” contradict the Qur’an’s own teaching.

3. The Quran affirms the authenticity of the Scriptures in the days Of Mohammed

A. The Qur’an affirms the books Christians possessed in the 7th century.

Those books were:
1. The Syriac Peshitta (Aramaic Bible used by Arab Christians)
2. The Greek New Testament manuscripts circulating in Byzantium
3. The Old Testament Septuagint
4. Jewish Torah scrolls

All of these affirm:
Jesus is the Son of God
Jesus died on the cross
Jesus rose from the dead
Jesus is Lord
Paul’s letters
The deity of Christ
The Trinity

This is the real problem for Islam:

Muhammad affirmed the authority of Scriptures that contradicted his later teachings.

B. If the Bible was corrupted before Muhammad, Islam collapses.

Why?

Because the Qur’an says:
1. The Gospel was a revelation from Allah
2. Christians still possessed it
3. Christians should judge by it
4. God’s word cannot be altered
5. Muhammad affirms its authority

Therefore:

If the Bible was corrupted before the Qur’an → the Qur’an lies.

C. If the Bible was corrupted after Muhammad, Islam still collapses.

Because:
We have manuscripts older than Muhammed Including
1. The Dead Sea Scrolls (OT, 200 BC)
2. The entire NT preserved in manuscripts from AD 100–600
3. The Syriac Peshitta from the 2nd century
4. Codex Sinaiticus (AD 325)

Thus:

If the Bible was corrupted after Muhammad → Muslims must show when, where, and by whom. No Muslim scholar in 1400 years has ever provided an answer.

Therefore:

Either way, Islam loses.

4. The Claim About Paul Is a Muslim Folktale, Not History

Muslims repeat this myth:

“Paul invented Christianity. Paul never met Jesus.”

This is simply wrong.

A. Paul met the resurrected Jesus (Acts 9).

Christians don’t deny Paul’s past as a persecutor; they proclaim it because it shows the power of grace, He who was a persecutor became the loudest and boldest witness for the gospel.

B. Paul knew the eyewitnesses.
He met:
Peter
James
John
The apostles
The Jerusalem elders
Paul’s theology was confirmed by the apostles (Galatians 2).
