Maya Joint after beating Serena Williams in her comeback singles match at Wimbledon:
Maya: “I don’t know what to say right now. Wow. I don’t know what just happened to be honest. 😂I didn’t get much sleep last night. I was up til like 2 am just thinking about it. Walking out… I forgot the warm up. I don’t know what happened. My legs weren’t moving. I don’t know how I got a pretty good start in the match. She has such an aura. She’s such a legend. This court has so many huge names that have played on it. I’ve been dreaming about this moment since I was a little kid. This is pretty crazy.” 🥹
“What was the toughest part about playing someone that you said was someone you idolized growing up?”
Maya: “I think just trying to come out on court and play a match against her. Just the start was very nerve wracking. Then trying to finish out the match as well. She definitely lifted her level. She played some really great tennis there.” ❤️
@usopen@serenawilliams It was very selfish of her, a great champion, to take a "wild card" away from some young player just starting her career. There is a lot to be said for stepping away with grace.
Joint d. Serena Williams 6-3 6-7(6) 6-3 at Wimbledon
Maya beats the 23-time Grand Slam Champion in Serena’s first singles match in 4 years.
Serena is still capable of some stunning tennis after so much time away… and it was incredible to watch.
But Maya was so impressive & handled the occasion so well.
The win of her life.
🇦🇺❤️
An unforgettable night ✨
Maya Joint claims her maiden main draw win at The Championships with a brilliant performance against Serena Williams

A young woman requesting a female gynaecologist is not out of line. She knows why she’s making that request, whether it’s for religious, cultural, personal, or trauma-related reasons.
If, after waiting for hours, she decides she’s comfortable seeing the male gynaecologist instead, one appropriate safeguard would be to offer her a chaperone…a nurse or another member of staff…to be present during the consultation. Infact it should be routinely offered to everyone.
Djokovic walks in on Sabalenka’s press conference and hilarity ensues.
Sabalenka: “What do you think about hitting with me? How do you see my level?”
Novak: “You’re a really talented player, but I feel you lack intensity on the court.” 😂
El-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz born (Malcolm Little) or Malcolm X as he was famously known was a Muslim Civil Rights Activist, orator, prominent in the 60's.
He is famously known for addresses like the "The Ballot or the Bullet", where he warned the United States government that if they failed to protect the civil and voting rights of Black Americans , they would have to resort to the bullet.
Or "Message to the Grassroots" where he distinguished between a House Negro and a Field Negro, famously declaring "There's no such thing as a non-violent revolution".
He was spokesman for the Nation of Islam from 1952 to 1964 when he broke away after performing the Hajj, and seeing Muslims of all races and ethnicities perform Hajj rites together shattered his earlier belief in inherent white evil, and he tried building an international solidarity against oppression rather than racial separation.
As part of his tour of Africa, Malcolm X visited Nigeria in May 1964.
He gave a fantastic speech in Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan to wide applause of students and intellectuals.
The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, of University of Ibadan, welcomed him and gave him the name Omowale. "The child has returned Home".
That name struck Malcolm X so deeply and he would later describe it as one of the greatest honors of his life.
He would be assassinated in 1965, but his legacy as a champion of Black American rights, has endured for decades.
Malcolm "Omowale" X. Peerless Civil Rights Hero.
"Lagos is not strictly a Yoruba State."
I have thought about that statement for over 30 minutes, and I still cannot understand what it is supposed to mean. These are the kind of things you say that get people annoyed.
There are a hundred different ways to make whatever point you were trying to make without opening with a disrespectful statement like that. It is an abomination.
Lagos may be cosmopolitan. It may be home to people from every part of Nigeria and beyond. But none of that changes the historical and cultural reality that Lagos is a Yoruba State. Diversity does not erase identity.
You would do well to remember that.
