Few decisions make sense at that time and appear to be mistakes a generation later.

I just met 65 years old nephew of Brig Usman aka The Lion of Nowshera, at a breakfast today.

Their ancestors migrated from Khoramsher, Iran to Hindustan during Mughal Emperor Shahjahan’s time and were appointed Kazi (Juror in the Royal Court). To date, the family continues to carry that title as surname.

Mr Kazi mentioned how his elder uncle, Brig Usman, despite his father’s insistence decided to stay in India, after the British partitioned it into two dominions, while his father migrated to Karachi, Pakistan.

Mr Kazi himself born in Karachi, had an exceptional international corporate career that took him from Karachi to the world. He mentioned those who left behind in India are now finding it very hard due to increased intolerance & religious bigotry. He was happy that his dad made the right call and moved the family to Pakistan.

It will be good to know how the descendants of Brig Usman in India doing.
