NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad has issued a press release stating that it received two letters from the Bar Council of India (BCI) on August 13, 2026 concerning the university’s graduating B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Batch of 2026.

The first communication directed that the enrolment of all graduating students be disallowed and sought an inquiry report concerning persons involved in recent developments relating to the upcoming convocation. The BCI subsequently rescinded the direction disallowing enrolment of the graduating students.

However, the second communication continues to require the Vice-Chancellor to submit an inquiry report. NALSAR has stated that, given the nature of the request, it will consider whether conducting such an inquiry falls within the University's constitutional powers and governance framework.

The matter will therefore be placed before the Executive Council of NALSAR, the University's highest decision-making body under its governing statute. Following consultation, the University's position will be communicated to the BCI.

The Bar Council of India barred an entire graduating batch of NALSAR from practising law. Their offence: around 70 students wrote a letter questioning the invitation of the CJI as their convocation guest.

After students raised their voice, the BCI modified the letter. But the inquiry continues, and the demand for the names of students and teachers still stands. This is nothing but a witch hunt.

And it is signed by a man wearing two hats: Chairman of the BCI, and sitting BJP Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra.

WITHDRAW the letter. GUARANTEE that no student is punished for the peaceful act of writing a letter. We will NOT stay silent.

After detailed deliberation, the @barcouncilindia has modified its earlier directions concerning @NALSAR_Official.

All 2026 passed-out students of NALSAR will now be entitled to seek enrolment with the State Bar Council of their choice. The factual inquiry will continue, and further action will follow on the basis of the report.

No student shall be made to suffer without any fault on his or her part.

What my gen achieved with Modi was incredible

We had no support. Everyone mocked us. The establishment media called us illiterates and fools.

The internet had bare minimum impact back then. Most of us had no idea how to express ourselves anyway.

But I remember we found ways. We went to Rediff message boards and wrote "Modi." There was the comments section on Firstpost, on Times of India.

The more we got banned or ignored, the more times we came at it. We would helplessly repeat claims that Rajdeep Sardesai or Yogendra Yadav are "biased"

I know that makes you laugh. Back in the day, folks like Rajdeep and Yogendra were considered neutral thinkers on politics. We had to go around debunking this!

By 2013, Facebook was there. It was a bit of fresh air, and we did what we could. We spoke against Sonia Gandhi any chance we got, anywhere.

I will end with an anecdote.

My college alumni group at the time was full of hardcore Sonia Gandhi supporters. I got banned for a few months, then went silent.

Some time in Apr 2014, after I had been silent for a while, someone in my college alumni group posted mockingly about me. Where is that one Modi supporter, they asked?

I replied that I had been in the ICU for almost 2 months with a life threatening illness, undergoing operation after operation.

At this, the reply came: Ha! There is no Modi wave, but he seems to have bulldozed your health.

The guy who said that wasn't banned.
