Students came to Jantar Mantar asking questions on education, paper leaks and accountability. What followed was pure police brutality.

A woman was beaten by male officers. Students were pushed, chased and hit. Samdish himself took lathis while recording what was happening.

Even after being hit, he kept saying: this is not about media privilege. No citizen should be beaten like this in their own city.

This was the state crushing dissent in full public view.

Jantar Mantar became the place where students asked for dialogue and power answered with lathis.

50% of the high income cities in India belong to just 3 states:

Tamil Nadu (4 cities): Coimbatore, Chennai, Tiruppur, and Madurai

Maharashtra (3 cities): Mumbai, Pune, and Ch. Sambhajinagar

Gujarat (3 cities): Vadodara, Surat, and Ahmedabad

35% of these high income cities are from Southern India and 30% from Western India.

Though well known, Southern and Western India together account for 65% of the cities on this list, clearly dominating the top ranks.

Hyderabad (which includes the Rangareddy district) is the primary driver for Telangana.

Karnataka’s complaint that development is heavily concentrated in Bengaluru appears valid based on this data, as no other city from the state makes the cut.
