The first step for self-awareness is mindfulness. In a stressful situation, our mind wanders off but bringing our attention to the present, observing our thoughts, emotions, & bodily sensations without judgement helps us by giving insight into our needs and what we can do.
'Self-awareness' goes beyond understanding what's happening in our lives. It involves understanding how different aspects of our lives impact different parts of us and adapting the coping strategies that work best for us.

We inadvertently pathologize human emotions and behaviors stemming from unmet needs. When normal reactions to life's challenges are ‘labeled’ as ‘mental disorders’, it leads to overdiagnosis and unnecessary medical interventions, instead of addressing the underlying causes.
