KADUNA 2027: DEFECTIONS DON’T DEFINE THE STRENGTH OF SARKIN BAI

There is a lot of excitement in certain quarters over the recent movement of Bashir Saidu, Ja’afar Sani, Abdu Kwaru and Mainan Zazzau to the APC.

But let’s ask the most important question: what exactly has Sarkin Bai lost?

Politics is not about counting names. It is about the strength of the structure behind those names.

Those who are celebrating these defections should remember that Sarkin Bai’s political journey did not begin with these individuals, and it certainly will not end with their departure.

The argument from our side is simple: if these individuals were responsible for the strength of Sarkin Bai’s political movement, then their departure should automatically translate into the collapse of that movement. But that is not what we are seeing.

Instead, we see new political actors emerging, new alliances taking shape and younger leaders bringing fresh energy into the movement.

Look at the likes of Hon. Muktar Baloni and Sardauna Hon. Yusuf Muhaska—young, energetic and politically active figures who represent the kind of new generation that can give the movement additional depth.

And then there is the wider political network associated with Malam Nasir El-Rufai. Anyone who understands Kaduna politics knows that the El-Rufai political network cannot simply be dismissed because a few individuals have changed parties.

So, to those celebrating four defections as though they have just dismantled an entire political structure, I would say: don’t confuse movement of individuals with movement of the people.

Our position is that the ADC still has capable individuals who can carry the political responsibility forward. In fact, we believe the party has a new generation of politically active people who are more than capable of filling whatever gaps may have been created.

And let’s be honest: if your political relevance depends entirely on standing beside one particular person, then your individual political strength deserves to be questioned. That is not an insult; it is a legitimate question about political independence and grassroots capacity.

Bashir Saidu, Ja’afar Sani, Abdu Kwaru and Mainan Zazzau have made their choices. They have every right to do so.

But their departure is their political decision—not the end of Sarkin Bai’s movement.

The 2023 election already demonstrated how competitive Kaduna politics can be. Isa Ashiru Kudan secured 719,196 votes, while Uba Sani secured 730,002—a difference of only 10,806 votes.

That history matters.

The political calculation has changed. New people have entered the arena. New alliances are being formed. And new leaders are emerging.

So let nobody mistake a few defections for the disappearance of a political structure.

The people will ultimately decide. The ground will tell the story.

And until then, all the declarations, defections and political celebrations are simply part of the journey to 2027.

The trajectory of Arsenal team has been obvious to everyone since 2022. In fact, even before then, since Arteta came, the signs have been there.

Arteta’s first years weren’t pretty. There were plenty of questions about whether he was actually the man to rebuild the club. But if you looked closely, something was happening underneath all the noise.

He started changing the culture before he could change the results.

You could see the direction of the project. Arteta inherited a team that had lost its identity, gradually changed the profile of the squad, raised the technical level, improved the mentality and, most importantly, made Arsenal competitive again.

The 2021/22 season was already a major indication. We were talking about a very young Arsenal team, with Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, White, Gabriel and others still developing, yet you could see the foundations of something serious.

Then 2022/23 and Arsenal went from being a team with potential to genuinely competing with Manchester City for the Premier League. They didn’t win the title, but that season changed the perception of the project completely.

Since then, it has basically been progress after progress, better recruitment, better squad depth, better control of games, better defensive structure, more experience and a much stronger mentality.

The signs were there.

The difference is that the project has matured enough now so everyone see it now. So people ignore the years of building.

Arteta didn’t build this team in one transfer window. It has been years of deliberately putting pieces together, and you can trace the evolution almost season by season.

What Arsenal are today is basically the accumulation of everything they have been building since Arteta arrived.
