Man Charged in Fatal Etobicoke Shooting of Woman Was Released on Bail Days Earlier, Court Records Show
A 37-year-old Brampton man has been charged with first-degree murder after a young woman was fatally shot in Etobicoke on Friday morning, just days after court records indicate he was released on bail.
Toronto police said officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Humberwood Boulevard and Rexdale Boulevard at approximately 7:23 a.m. on July 24.
Investigators allege the victim and the suspect were involved in a brief interaction before the suspect allegedly shot the woman. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the victim, Navneet Kaur, 26, of Toronto, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the suspect fled before officers arrived. Following further investigation, members of the Ontario Provincial Police located and arrested the suspect.
Sharnjeet Singh, 37, of Brampton, has been charged with:
-First-degree murder
-Fail to comply with an undertaking.
According to Ontario court records, Singh was released on bail on July 18, 2026, six days before the fatal shooting. However, it is unclear whether the charges for which he was granted bail are related to the homicide investigation or involve a separate matter.
The killing marks Toronto's 22nd homicide of 2026.
