Last October, the administration canceled billions in clean energy grants, calling it waste. Budget Director Russ Vought called it “green new scam funding.”

Now we know the truth. A Department of Energy lawyer conceded that 284 grants, roughly $7,500,000,000, were terminated “solely” on political criteria: projects in states that voted against Trump and have two Democratic senators. Grants in Trump-voting states were left alone, even when the Energy Department had recommended cutting some of those too.

This was money Congress appropriated for grid upgrades and job-creating energy projects, cancelled not for waste, but because of how people voted. 

The same pattern has shown up with FEMA and child care funding. A total disgrace.
