Incase you missed to watch Kalitta Airlines 777-300ER freighter tail strike drama, here it is. It looked like something straight out of a Netflix aviation thriller. The massive 777 came in low, the tail struck the runway leaving bright sparks flying behind the aircraft. Then, instead of stopping, the crew then powered the aircraft away and climbed back into the sky for another approach and landed safely.

Tail strikes are one of those moments that can look dramatic on camera, but there’s a much more serious side to them. When the tail of a large aircraft like this Kalitta Air 777 hits the runway, it can cause structural damage that isn’t always obvious from the outside. That’s why the aircraft needs to be inspected before it can return to normal service. For this aircraft, it stayed out of service for about 24 days before returning to service!
