Meanwhile, the vitriol and animosity whipped up on the platform in a matter of hours towards the free press creates fleeting bursts in “engagement” but lasting erosion in trust for all those who have supported Twitter over the years. 2/2
The ban appears to be what we thought it was. An impulsive attempt to lash out against accurate reporting Elon Musk didn’t like. This is exactly the role of an independent press - to hold powerful and public officials to account. 1/2
You might love this. I can see many do. Elon is hurting the people you want hurt. But don't lie about what's in your heart. Embrace your petty rage. Own it.
And I knew this is how this was all going to go down. It wasn't hard to see. But be under no illusion, that Elon is the editor-in-chief of Twitter now. He's not the custodian of some global town square, practicing the spirit of the First Amendment.
I still think this website is private property. I remain committed to the *legal* principle that Elon can ban whoever the hell he wants for whatever reason. My beef is with him and others who claimed this was all about "free speech". I am criticizing their lack of integrity.
When are we going to talk about the fact that Hunter Biden:
- made $640M as a WH advisor
- got $2B from Crown Prince Mohammed Bone Saw
- got $100 million for his women’s fund
- got patents from China
- got $6.35 million in PPP loans
Oh wait, that was Jared & Ivanka.
