I write about how unsound money prevents development in Africa, advocate bitcoin adoption in Malawi with @bitcoinboma, and economics for kids with @EconoKidz.
International aid agencies are providing goats for families in Malawi as a way to fight poverty. Like so many other do-good experiments, this one has numerous unintended consequences. | Ian Foster

Upon ‘independence’, African nations fell into the fiat/central banking trap, instead of reverting to their pre-colonial, relatively hard monies of gold, various forms of iron, cowrie shells, etc.
The post-colonial, inflationary fiat system has enriched Africa’s elites and the Donorati (‘aid’), trapping the rest in poverty.
This can be overcome if Africans begin taking their money out of the hands of their governments in some sly roundabout way that cannot be stopped. Reverting to gold, iron and shells is no longer necessary. Africans need to embrace bitcoin en masse.

Week 1 of the Bitcoin Education Development Program at MUBAS university was a huge success!
Big thanks to everyone who showed up — we had around 70 participants, and the energy was amazing!
@pacharo_w took us on an epic journey from the history of money to the birth of Bitcoin.
@magattew True ‘independence’ was symbolised by having their own currencies - a freedom fighter on a bank note instead of a foreign monarch.
So most African nations immediately established a central bank, ushering in socialist mismanagement that chokes African nations to this day.

Many people work hard to earn what they've not actually sat down & taken time to understand. This is a major reason for the high prevalence of global job dissatisfaction.
When you intentionally seek to understand money, you'll find Bitcoin at the end of that purposeful journey.
@EGBOKWUSHADRAC1@SatoshisJournal 💯A problem the world over, and much worse in Africa. I explore this in my article on dishonest exchange here:

A big part of the problem is we are never taught about money in any meaningful way - we should teach our kids!

Bitcoin mining works on grids the same way noise cancellation headphones work:
Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) comes in waves.
Bitcoin mining can peak where VRE troughs, and trough where VRE peaks
This puts the grid back in harmony and means you can have more VRE on the grid
This is Fanuel from Malawi. He grew up in a village around Mulanje Massif - the tallest Mountain in Malawi. He took me up to the peak for a challenging 3-day hike and even invited me to stay at his place on the day we got back down.
