@owenjonesjourno If you are going to the Lake District I would recommend Grasmere - just north of Ambleside, very central in the lakes and lots of pubs/restaurants. Depending what you want to spend there are a variety of hotels or holiday lets available

@DPJHodges They won't find they are worse off when they look at their bank account. If the've had a pay rise they might find some of it is taxed at 40% when it would have been taxed at 20% if thresholds had been indexed, but they will still have more net cash than they did the week before

Other than the (still capped) tax free cash lump sum, you will still pay tax on your pension at your marginal rate (40% or 45% for high earners) when you receive it from your pension fund

@TorstenBell If you are in a defined benefit final salary pension scheme with close to maximum accrual of 40/60 and indexation on scheme benefits then if you on a salary of circa £70,000 or over (eg civil service) your pension pot will most certainly be worth over £1m. Hardly the super rich.
