Joseph Smith was deceived by a demon?
That rhetoric opens the door to seeing Latter-day Saints as something less than human.
This is what leads people to drive their trucks into our churches and open fire on men, women, and children.
An obscene portion of the American left is cheering after one of their radicals just killed the same guy that just said "his next political project was 'how do we de-radicalize the country'"... he was literally trying to live a Russell M. Nelson "peacemaker" talk he hadn't ever heard and they killed him for it. We have much work to do.
My name is Matthew. I was raised religious and converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There’s no doubt it is the truth. Yet, I left the church officially in 2020 because of personal beliefs and becoming more radicalized to the left. Those are dangerous waters. Know the truth, then leaving it, the fog of darkness is so much harder to navigate. I’m here now, in the fight. I’m on the Lord’s side and have been for the past year. Leaving the truth makes you have to fill that God sized hole with hatred and vitriol. This assassination looks to be just that. Please, come into Christ. Swallow your pride, yeah it’s hard to admit you’ve been wrong, but I did. I got rebaptized and now life is freeing. Family is happy, the days seem brighter, and the spirit is with me. My dear brothers and sisters, those who are members and those who have left, it’s time to come back. It’s time to embark on gathering Israel. Time is running out. #LDSx
I hope I'm wrong.
But tonight feels like some sort of invisible line has been crossed that we didn't even know was there. The last time I felt like this was 9/11 when it was clear, without knowing the how and the what, that the world was about to change forever.
Like the rules of the game had been permanently altered and there was simply no going to back to the innocent, peaceful past.
I didn't feel like this when an attempt was made on President Trump's life. If I had to rationalise why I didn't, I guess it's because several US Presidents have been shot at and even assassinated. Somehow it was within the realms of the possible, no matter how awful.
But to murder a young father simply for doing debates and mobilising young people to vote for a party that represents half of America? This is something else.
Charlie's death is a tragedy for his wife, his children and his family. I don't pray often. I am praying for them tonight.
But I fear his murder will be a tragedy for all of us in ways we will only understand as time unfolds.
I hope I'm wrong.
"When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say".
My thoughts are with Charlie Kirk's family.
I will publicly disavow ANYBODY justifying this.
He likes Trump? He likes Israel? Guess what? He’s a fucking AMERICAN and he has freedom of speech.
You can love Stalin for all I care.
Hold any fucking opinion you want NOBODY gets shot for an opinion in a civilised world.
Please don’t die @charliekirk11.
