This map (not my own) does an excellent job of trying to explain the incoming congestion charge. Still seeing an enormous amount of confusion and disinformation about this. Like it or lump it, you *can still reach everywhere except the very centre without passing a single filter*
Have just driven across London (something I usually avoid, but I had reasons) and seen so many people in huge SUVs completely blatantly using their phone while driving. The damage they could cause is unthinkable
@chilternrailway Any reason it took so long to actual cancel trains and update live info on nationalrail for this tree you've been dealing with all morning? Too late for a refund after I went through the barrier and waited for 10m so now I'm forced to go via Paddington instead
Witnessed a car mount the pavement at speed to get around the Junction Road LTN bollard. Absolutely gobsmacked. Incredibly dangerous. Didn't have my camera on my bike, and didn't quite get their number plate :'(
TW suicide: I recommend reading through this feature. It is a desperately sad look into the eyes of a broken Headteacher following their Ofsted inspection and "inadequate" result. BBC News - I.N.A.D.E.Q.U.A.T.E - Ruth Perry’s despair in handwritten notes

@EmilyKerr36 I had a nice time on my lunch break today. Enjoyed the 5m conversation with the Bratwurst man about the politics of sausage stands at the Xmas Market. He clearly didn't care about the cycle lane anyway
@bigdamo@maryoxford@cycloX I recall times when the police ran a campaign stopping cyclists without lights on the High Street and fining but letting off if they evidenced buying lights. A good initiative but presumably no money to pay for it these days!
@RibbleCycles genuine question, not (just) a complaint. Why is it taking so long for the frame to be made/delivered to Preston? My dispatch keeps being delayed, and is now two months later than originally estimated... is this a Brexit thing?
@Sammy_owl Absolutely! Not sure if they just ignored the tractor or if they thought they had time (which they did but it was a lot closer than it should have been). Either way, the cyclist was at fault here.
@dcsprior That's a very good point. Happily mine (manual) is quite happy in 3rd at or just under 20, and also quite happy in 4th at or just under 30. I make prolific use of my cruise control too. Handy for an empty road at 20! But in reality, most of time it's too busy to even do 20!
Outrage at new 20mph limits continues to amaze me. Lots of folks out there who seem to be able to judge 30mph without looking at their speedo, but would be glued to it at 20mph, missing hazards, thereby making it more dangerous???? And then there are those that give 1/3
@Thanksdrive65 Admittedly I don't know much about claims about financial benefits. Although I find it hard to believe a £4.5b hit on the economy could come from reducing it. Evidence? I don't recall there being claims about financial benefits here in Oxford (although I might be wrong).
@MTimC1 Interested to read it, if you have a link? I can see the logic that longer journeys = more opportunity for incident. But also risk of serious injury/death reduces with lower speed.
a car at 20mph. I do get that, on an empty road, 20mph can feel quite slow. But I think part of that is adjusting to the new feel of the speed. It amazes me how impatient drivers behind me get if I stick to new 20mph limits in Oxford. 3/3
examples of cyclists "breaking" 20mph limits, and worry about being overtaken by speeding bikes. There really is a massive overestimating of the number of cyclists that will able to reach 20mph on the flat. But even so, I'd rather be hit by a bike at 30mph than 2/3
have to walk anyway, or cycle at walking pace. And alternatives do exist, even if they aren't convenient. I'll be using Lamb and Flag passage, but then I need to head up that way anyway. Just another day of doommongering from the Oxford Mail and community social media... 4/4
RE Broad Street cycle path and the Christmas Market. My view is that the misreporting is extremely unhelpful. @OxfordClarion did the best job of explaining the real situation. Posts from the council and the organiser suggest that there have been some difficult conversations, 1/n
be too busy with pedestrians around there for me. I can see that there is a specific route where there isn't a convenient alternative (I.e. George Street <> Hollywell Street) but on balance I'd probably just close the cycle lane. Odds are that it will be so busy that you'd 3/n
