@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret What is your view of alternate pathways for displaced people? @TBBforTalent is great example. They have a LinkedIn for refugees with profiles of 100,000 talented refugees for employers to sponsor from eg Lebanon. A source of skills for a tight labour market
The MAC will be asked to look at why the It and engineering sectors need migrant labour. Definitely worthwhile but the conclusions are probably obvious. Also to look at spouse rules and I’m optimistic about what they’ll conclude.

@LouCalvey I was thinking about this earlier. Would an MP who ran on an anti immigration ticket be allowed to refuse to help constituents who are seeking asylum?

@DavidHenigUK What do you think it will mean for visas/ mode 4? I don’t remember it being controversial under the last Labour gov, but then I don’t remember it being controversial under the coalition either
We have published a report on human rights and the proposal for a "Hillsborough Law".
We argue for a broad ‘duty of candour’ and enhanced legal support for families.

@StevePeers@jdportes@jillongovt@hasanbakhshi Yep but presumably be the same number? Maybe not, but that would have been the default assumption when I was in Home Office policy. Maybe countries with demographic challenges would want higher in than outflows but I can’t see that here
@jdportes@StevePeers@jillongovt@hasanbakhshi Others are too - South Korea, Japan, Monaco. Surely you would just ask the MAC to set a figure and the MAC would set it against the number of young Brits who used to go and work in Europe.
People worrying that a UK EU Youth Mobility deal could be a limitless free movement for young people are missing a big point. It works perfectly well with, Japan, S Korea, Monaco etc and numbers are managed with mutually agreed quotas. That seems to have been missed in the debate
