@hinds_stuart Don’t get me wrong- I think $AZY need $GGP more than the other way around. But with the size of the Telfer mill to be supplied predominantly by two underground mines surely a circa 2moz open pit makes sense.

@hinds_stuart If you accept Zeptner’s comment that “any deals need to have a good amount of synergies - geographical ones” then I think there is only one meaningful choice. Once they are fully permitted (if not before) $AZY.ax are gone. A 30% premium would cost GGP less than 5% of their mcap.

@DavidPocock Can you explain how being exempted from paying a tax (because you largely don’t use the roads the tax is funding) is a subsidy? Am I getting a subsidy to drink coke because I’m not paying the alcohol tax? Hang on, that could be an idea for next year’s budget. Don’t tell Jim!

@DavidPocock Isn’t the diesel fuel tax fuel supposed to help fund the government to build and maintain public roads? Isn’t that why mining companies and farmers who mainly drive on their own mines, paddocks and private roads were exempted?

@ASX_invest It’s always worth remembering that the Govt doesn’t pay for NDIS, taxpayers do. So if NDIS costs $52 Billion pa how many workers earning $100,000 per year and paying $22,500 tax does it take to pay $52,000,000,000? The answer is 2.3 million taxpayers!

@larissawaters So every time NDIS goes up by $10 billion we need close to another 500,000 taxpayers to earn $100,000 per year.
NDIS is forecast to cost $100 billion by 2034-35.

@BenPhillips_ANU It’s fair because the Govt told them that if they saved into super for their 80 working years (2x 40) so they didn’t need to rely on welfare (paid from other people’s tax) for pensions, housing, healthcare, etc, the reward would be tax free earnings.
