Canada's Healthcare Crisis:
Pediatric hospice discharges respite patients, so staff are redeployed to children's hospital where there's not enough staff for the surge in patients
Dr. @JVipondmd says he doesn't recognize the society he's living in

Kids across Canada are in crisis, and it isn’t a Tylenol problem. Right now there are more young people needing in-hospital treatment for severe infections than we can safely care for.
Thanks @joeolivermd for sharing your kind, kid-loving voice

With the surge in COVID-19 infections in the province, health care professionals are urging Albertans to wear masks and get vaccinated. Don’t turn your back on COVID. (1/2)
I have a piece out today in @sfchronicle asking a pretty simple question about #LongCovid:
In a pandemic of personal choice, where is the public warning for the most likely serious outcome from infection? 🧵https://t.co/EsYc3esN7v
3/3 #VaccinesPlus remains the best way forward to maintain preparedness and respond to #COVID19 and other respiratory infections this fall/winter:

BQ1 and BQ 11 Analysis: I'll get this out of the way first, I am not going to try and predict how hard these variants can surge. I've spoken to a few experts in the field, we simply do not know how crazy the surge will become. That being said; BQ 1 and BQ 11
Pretty frustrating @TELUS@TELUSsupport the hole u made in my driveway was filled, but then caved-in back in July. I've called support a dozen times the last 4 months to get it filled, many MANY failed promises of "sorry, we'll get it fixed." Now just waiting for a liability.
Here's a sneak peek at one of our future models - [breathe] Pro.
Rugged, huge filter area, ultra-easy breathing,
still surprisingly light & pillowy soft.
Ideal for harsh environments like construction, grinding, sanding, wildfire smoke...and COVID. 😊

IMO the common knowledge about SCV2 is still way out of line with reality, even within the bubble of educated elite discourse.
A thread to collect some papers which suggest a very different conception about what SCV2 is, and means.
The sarbecopill, if you will.
« We don’t believe that the vast majority of the population, when fully informed of the risks and alternatives, would sign up for this mass infection policy. With another wave ready to hit, we need policymakers to make better decisions now. »https://t.co/TYJNL3Ywp9
It was not as though we had solved the problem, but had obfuscated the facts thoroughly enough that we gave up thinking about solutions. In the end the truth was too painful to deal with, and so, we sacrificed our future for an uncomplicated present.
I know I'm not on the inside anymore but this was inexplicable when they tried it last year and it's inexplicable now. Get rid of all the mandates if you like, but people with contagious disease really should stay home. Mind you, we should whether mandatory or not. It's just kind
There's a common myth being passed around that longCOVID is rare, that it only affects medically infirm people, that it can't happen to me. Here's a short thread on the famous people that are dealing with #longCOVID 1/
Maybe we could keep/reinstate mask mandates for a bit while we figure out this liver failure issue that’s mostly affecting infants and toddlers, our littlest littles, a group that has literally no way of personal responsibility-ing their way through this? Just a thought.
OK, this is exciting. Our NanoMask tooling was installed at the new molder yesterday. Trial parts show the need to machine the molds to improve fit, finish, yield & productivity but easily doable. Fingers crossed, 2 weeks from now we may be back in production. 🙂

@AlbertaatNoon @DickensYYC @puneeta00 @EdmontonDownto2 @AntibioticDoc As a dad of a young son with a CHD and two other sons who are too young to get vaccinated, its tough to see these restrictions being lifted. Reality is, not much has changed in the last 2 years for parent of kids who aren't eligable to be vaccinated.
