Small backstory: Growing up the lack of money disrupted my desired plans e.g. education. The moment I pushed through/started working, I knew I had to learn about money. I read a lot of books (I will share some at the end). I saw some traditions of people saving for their child's university education from birth, some saving for their wedding for years, pension for decades, and some even saving for their own burial.
The below will help you with your goals.
1. Spend less than you earn.
This is one of the oldest rules of finance. Avoid lifestyle creep, If you get an increased salary or side hustle income. Try and keep the expenses the same so you can have more money to invest/ take advantage of some opportunities. If they invite you for a one-day owambe and you cant afford to buy the chosen Ankara, wear the one you have. Do not let peer pressure/ social media get to you. Your money your choice.
2. Find opportunities to increase your income. If you have skills that can earn extra money in the marketplace, please don't hold back, I know people who do MC, writing, cooking, photography, graphics, etc. Earning money on the side and using that for various things. Some side hustles that you love and are good at could become your main source of income later. Also if there is a recession and you lose your job, you have some earning capacity on the side.
3. Avoid/Pay off High-Interest Debt
A lot of people abroad use high-interest credit cards to build their credit scores. Please pay them off before the statement date. Those interests slow down your financial plan. Stay away from payday loans at all costs. So many have learned this the very hard way.
4. The Next Step is to Save for an emergency fund.
Experts say to have 3-6 months of your monthly expenses saved in case of emergency. Anything can happen at any time. That saving will be your shock absorber.
5. Invest regularly in ETFs for yourself and your children. My favourite one here is the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (It has averaged 10% returns annually in the last 50 years). This is what Warren Buffett and all the Finance OGs recommend.
If you are in the USA, understand how to use your ROTH IRA, and 401K to achieve your goals.
In the UK, read up on ISAs and LISA.
In Canada, know about the TFSA.
In Africa, I know you can access ETFs through @investbamboo and @chippercashapp
6. Understand other assets like real estate and bonds. How does it all fit into your plans? How can you maximise it all?
7. What age do you want to retire? and what are you planning to spend during that time, when you will not be working. We pray we do not have to crowdfund for help. That means money has to be saved/invested for that time.
I will be doing live sessions this week and you will have my phone number to ask questions. I wish you all the best in the new year.

Today I became an American citizen 🇺🇸.
America has indeed been good to me. I came to this country on the invitation of a Fortune 500 company to lead technology innovation, got promoted to become a Director within 3 years (show me another country where a young black woman can do that in 3 years), married the most incredible man as a husband, to birthing the most inspiring princess, owning properties worth millions of dollars, owning multiple companies and living daily in a society that allows me dream, actualize the dreams and help others do the same.
It takes courage to leave everything you know and move somewhere else to restart life all over. Courage it has taken as I moved from Nigeria to Finland to Canada and to the US. None of these moves have been easy and every step of the way, I have done them all knowing that my dreams are valid.
The idea of an American dream is valid and I’m a living proof. To every immigrants on their journeys, don’t stop until you get what you seek. It’s possible!
Masters & Ph.D. students are "eating good" in the Canadian Study Permit process right now
- No attestation letter needed from Provinces
- No Visa limit
- It’s now 3-year post-grad work permit (even for 1 year Masters)
- Their spouses are still eligible for a spousal work permit
I once read that when what you love doing is what makes you money, then you have won massively in life.
But how would you know what you love doing, if you have not tried a lot of things?
I used to think Engineering and Construction was my last bus stop until I found coaching.
I am so obsessed with coaching that you could find me replying DMs in the dead of the night. Nothing is as fulfilling as seeing people achieving things they thought were impossible.
Life is hard, and we have been made to feel some things are not meant for us. Everything we want is available, we just need to know what it takes to get it.
It could mean new habits, new world views, new knowledge, and being out of our comfort zone.
I will always be here to help
I want to beg you as a young person to try and find that thing that keeps you awake at night. That problem you keenly want to solve. You will do your best work when passion is there.
If you can serve people at scale, what you want is not far away.

Try your hands on many things, "fail fast and fail forward".
Find your IKIGAI. The world is waiting for your gift❤️🙏
One of the worst things that can happen to anyone is to work with a toxic boss.
I have been there. Everything will give you anxiety.
Even the money you earn, you won’t spend it in peace.
Your relief will come the day you resign. It’s something I don’t wish anyone should experience.
BREAKING: From February 15th 2024 international students graduating from Masters program in Canada will now be eligible for a 3 year Post Graduate Work Permit.
A welcome development amidst new policies.
