Opening the doors of education is the first step to breaking the cycle of poverty.
For too long, poverty has been treated as an inevitable reality, passed down from one generation to the next like an unbreakable chain. But education disrupts that pattern. It equips children with the skills, confidence, and opportunities their parents never had. It empowers families. It strengthens communities. It shifts entire economies.
When a child learns to read, the trajectory of a household changes. When a girl gains access to quality schooling, the prospects of an entire community rise. When marginalized learners are included, society becomes fairer, safer, and more prosperous.
This is why opening the doors of education is not just an intervention, it's a revolution. A deliberate act of rewriting the story for millions who have been left behind.
Imagine what becomes possible when every child, regardless of where they live or what they were born into, can step into a classroom that welcomes their potential. Imagine what our world could look like when opportunity is no longer dictated by circumstance.
Education is the beginning. Poverty is not destiny. And the future can be different, if we are bold enough to keep those doors open.

FastTrack continues to prove that quality learning can reach every child, anywhere.
Today, we reflect on the transformative impact of FastTrack+ in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In just three months at the Mugunga and Nyiragongo camps in Goma, #FastTrack+ with funding support from the World Innovation Summit for Education (@WISE_Tweets ), reached 1,200 out-of-school and refugee children and trained 84 local facilitators. The remarkable improvement in literacy and numeracy proficiency among learners in the DRC highlight both the effectiveness and adaptability of the approach.
FastTrack is an Edtech learning solution that combines Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) pedagogy, community-facilitator delivery, and bilingual, offline digital pen with audio capabilities, to help out-of-school and refugee children access and attain foundational learning skills in an accelerated, engaging and creative way, demonstrating that even in low-resource, multilingual, and refugee settings, learners can make rapid, measurable progress.
The success in DRC demonstrates that FastTrack+ can be adapted and scaled to meet the needs of learners in diverse environments.

Equal access.
Equal opportunity.
Equal future.
In today's world, information and communication technologies (ICTs) are being increasingly integrated into all aspects of our daily lives, including learning, social, political, and economic activities. Digital equity ensures that every learner can fully participate in all aspects of modern life, such as civic and cultural affairs, employment, and accessing vital services. This goes beyond just having access to devices and the internet; it includes the ability to effectively use these tools to access opportunities, learn, and engage in civic life.
AREAi is committed to promoting digital inclusion through 3 strategic processes, including scaling digital skills development among the most marginalised groups, driving conversations that aim to promote building digital essentials in underserved communities, and contributing to the existing body of knowledge aimed at crafting a digital compact for inclusive development.

There’s a special kind of light that shines in a child’s eyes when learning finally makes sense, when words come alive, numbers connect, and curiosity grows. That light is the pure joy of understanding.
Through our FastTrack program, we nurture that joy by making learning fun, engaging, and meaningful. In our classrooms, lessons are not rushed; mistakes are seen as steps toward growth, and every “aha!” moment is celebrated.
At AREAi, providing access to education in rural communities is not just about teaching, it’s about awakening potential. Our greatest joy comes from seeing children understand, build the confidence to think critically, ask questions, and dream big.
This week, we are doubling our efforts to keep that spark of understanding alive and to show every child that learning is not just possible but beautiful.

Ever wondered how facilitators or community teachers are recruited, trained, and supported for our FastTrack program?
Hear from our Director of Programs, Mrs. Funmilola Ahmadu Bamidele (@Simplylola7 ), as she explains how the recruitment, training, and continuous support of community-based facilitators form the backbone of the FastTrack solution, ensuring lasting impact and effective learning outcomes for every child.
At AREAi, we engage two key categories of facilitators: trained teachers within local communities, and literate at-risk youths who are empowered through capacity-building and skills training to deliver FastTrack lessons. By leveraging individuals who understand the local context and realities of learners, we create a learning experience that is relatable, inclusive, and impactful.
Each facilitator undergoes intensive training in all components of the FastTrack model including the Total Physical Response method, bilingual instruction, and the use of Talking Books and Pens to deliver engaging, learner-centered instruction across communities.
FastTrack is a technology-driven educational delivery model facilitates the rapid acquisition of quality foundational numeracy and literacy skills, particularly for disadvantaged refugee and out-of-school learners, within a defined and short time frame.
Through these intentional investments in local capacity, FastTrack continues to empower facilitators as changemakers, bridging learning gaps and transforming foundational literacy and numeracy education where it’s needed most.

Before they can lead, they must learn to count.

Every additional year of education can increase a girl’s future earnings by 10-20%
According to the World Bank, every additional year of schooling for girls can increase their future earnings by up to 20%. This statistic highlights the importance of investing in girls’ education for individual empowerment and national development.
Investing in girls’ education is not just a moral imperative, but an economic one, delivering long-term financial benefits alongside social transformation.
As an organization committed to providing access to education for children from low-resourced and underserved communities, girls' education is one of our top priorities.
We place a strong emphasis on ensuring that no girl is left behind. This is because we know that educating girls has a ripple effect, empowering them to become leaders, innovators, and changemakers in their communities.
By supporting girls’ education, we can create a more equitable and prosperous world, with benefits extending beyond individual girls to their families, communities, and societies as a whole.

Communities must be co-creators of development, not just passive recipients of interventions.
This principle guides our program design and implementation, as it reflects the shift from top-down program delivery to inclusive, participatory development, where local actors are empowered, informed, and involved in shaping solutions that impact them directly.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, our recent community engagement at a FastTrack+ implementing school reinforced to us that foundational learning is effective when communities are actively involved because we understand that education is more than just a system; it’s a shared responsibility.
We engaged with school leaders, local education authorities, and teachers to share insights on FastTrack+, our tech-enabled foundational learning intervention designed to accelerate literacy and numeracy among children who are often left behind.
This engagement served as a bridge, transforming them from passive recipients into active partners in the learning journey.
We also recruited facilitators directly from the school and host community, an intentional move to build trust, ensure cultural relevance, and sustain the impact of FastTrack+ in DRC. These are not just facilitators; they are community members who understand the realities of the learners and are now equipped to guide them through a transformative learning experience.
Foundational learning cannot be achieved in isolation. It must be rooted in the realities of the people it serves. And in the DRC, we’re seeing that when communities are genuinely engaged, they become the strongest advocates for their children’s education and future.
#AREAi #AREAi4Africa #FoundationalLearning #EducationForAll #LearningWithoutBarrier
Foundational learning isn’t a privilege, It’s a right! But far too many children are being denied it.
Imagine being 10 years old and unable to read a simple sentence or solve a basic math problem. Now imagine being one of 70% of children in low- and middle-income countries facing that exact reality.
This is the reality for millions of children, not because they lack the ability, but because they’ve never been given a strong start.
According to UNICEF and UNESCO, 7 out of 10 children in low- and middle-income countries are unable to read and understand a simple story by age 10.
This is more than a learning gap; it’s a global learning crisis.
When children miss out on the basics early, they don’t just fall behind, many never catch up. And each year, the cost of inaction leads to lost potential, deepened poverty, and futures cut short.
At AREAi, we believe it’s time to act.
It’s time to prioritise foundational literacy and numeracy as the bedrock of quality education for all.
Because literacy can’t wait. Numeracy can’t wait. Children can’t wait.

INTRODUCING FoundaMENTA- Join our Waitlist.
We are proud to introduce FoundaMENTA, a flagship teacher training program designed to build capacity in the delivery of foundational literacy and numeracy through innovative, inclusive, and learner-centered approaches.
According to UNESCO, over 617 million children and adolescents worldwide are not achieving minimum proficiency in reading and mathematics. In Sub-Saharan Africa alone, nearly 90% of children aged 6 to 14 fail to meet these minimum standards and what is even more startling is that two-thirds of these children are in school.
At AREAi, we believe that improving FLN outcomes starts by investing in teachers and equipping them not just with tools, but with the mindset, methods, and mentorship they need to thrive.
Using a structured pedagogical approach, we have designed this multi-layered intervention to support school teachers and community-based facilitators operating in formal or non-formal education settings across Africa, with a particular focus on those working with marginalized, underserved, or out-of-school children.
This opportunity is open to:
•School teachers and learning facilitators working in low-income or underserved communities;
•Educators supporting out-of-school children or vulnerable learners;
•Individuals with a strong interest in improving their teaching effectiveness and contributing to stronger learning outcomes.
