Reaching a “Critical” threshold under the Preparedness Framework means the conversation is no longer simply “How powerful is the model?”

It becomes:

What can it do, what could go wrong, and are the safeguards actually keeping pace?

That shift feels increasingly important as AI moves from being a tool that answers questions to systems that can meaningfully operate in high-impact domains like cybersecurity.

The interesting part of Astra may ultimately be less about the benchmark numbers and more about how OpenAI manages the gap between what the model can do and what it should be allowed to do.
