On April 9, 2025, According to reports, an RSF drone strike targeted the Meroe power station in Northern State, #Sudan, causing extensive damage and widespread blackouts affecting regions including Omdurman where MSF supports Al Nao and Al Buluk Paediatric Hospitals.
These blackouts are crippling essential lifesaving health services �� pushing Omdurman into its 3rd major blackout this year, with no end in sight.
@MSF is stepping in to support hospitals in Omdurman with fuel for generators, water trucking, and backup power sources.
At Al Buluk Pediatric Hospital, MSF has rented an emergency generator and is trucking water daily to keep operations running.
At Al Nao Hospital, MSF solarized the borehole in advance — helping ensure lifesaving services can continue and basic hygiene is maintained, even during blackouts.
The risk of cholera outbreaks grows every day as water becomes scarcer. MSF is supporting Cholera Treatment Units at Al Nao Hospital and Jazeera Eslanj PHCC.
We're also accelerating the installation of water tanks at IDP sites, and are ready to provide oxygen to health facilities if the situation worsens.
MSF condemns attacks targeting civilian infrastructure which exacerbates the humanitarian crisis and must cease immediately. Such attacks on civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law and endanger lives.
