The Maldives National Institute of Sports (MNIS), in collaboration with Shaviyani Milandhoo Council and the Badminton Association of Maldives, has launched a Badminton Umpire Course running from 22–28 September.
Guided by experienced instructors Ali Abdul Kareem and Ahmed Shiham, the course is equipping participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to officiate the game at a higher level.
Minister of State Ahmed Mohamed Waheed inaugurated the Handball Referees Course (Batch 1) in Malé City today.
Organised by the Maldives National Institute of Sports (MNIS) in collaboration with Handball Maldives, the course is being held from 22 September to 02 October 2026, with 40 participants.
The course is led by instructors Shizna Rasheed and Rafaahaa Ibrahim.

Project update: HDh.Nellaidhoo Fitness and Recreation Center | 95% Complete
The ongoing “Hashiheyoraajje” Program in M. Dhiggaru is being conducted through the collaborative efforts of Dhiggaru Council and Dhiggaru Health Centre, bringing together 50 women from diverse age groups to promote health, wellness, and active living within the community.
We sincerely appreciate Dhiggaru Health Centre for its support in conducting health assessments, awareness on maintaining a balanced diet, and screenings, contributing to the successful implementation of the “Hashiheyoraajje” Program. The program continues to promote healthy and active lifestyles within the community.
This marks the 27th “Hashiheyoraajje” Program conducted in local islands so far this year, reflecting the Ministry’s continued commitment to expanding community-based health and fitness initiatives across the Maldives.

Project update: HA.Dhidhdhoo Volley Court | 100% Complete
The opening ceremony of the first Maldives Junior Lifeguard Programme (MJLP) was held today in K.Thulusdhoo, with Deputy Commissioner of Sports Mohamed Hanim attending as Chief Guest.
Held from 12-14 September, MJLP is an ocean safety initiative launched by the Australia Maldives Friendship Association (AMFA) in partnership with Water Patrol Australia.
The programme aims to equip young participants with essential lifeguarding skills while promoting ocean safety and awareness among Maldivian youth.
Maldives National Institute of Sports (MNIS), in collaboration with the Sports Medicine Association of Maldives (SMAM) and Addu Equatorial Hospital, successfully concluded the Basic Sports First Aid and Taping Course held in Hithadhoo, Addu City from 9-11 September 2026.
A total of 26 participants successfully completed the program, receiving training in sports first aid, injury assessment, emergency response, and sports taping through a combination of classroom learning and hands-on practical sessions.
The closing ceremony was graced by Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness Abdulla Rafiu, as the Chief Guest.
The course was facilitated by Sports Physician Ahmed Shakeeb and Ikram Hameed of SMAM, who shared their expertise to strengthen participants' knowledge and practical skills in sports medicine.
The Basic Sports First Aid & Taping Course is underway in Hithadhoo, Addu City, from 9-11 September 2026.

Mariyam Eshal Misbah and Moosa Munsif Ahmed have been bestowed with the prestigious honour of carrying the Maldivian national flag during the Opening Ceremony of the 20th Asian Games, scheduled to take place from 19 September to 4 October 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Amna Thazkiyah Mirsaad and Looth Mohamed Hussain have been awarded the honour of serving as flag bearers for the Maldives at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which will be held from 31 October to 13 November 2026 in Dakar, Senegal.
