So why does today's story matter?

Software (ECINET) meant to help EROs do their job is stopping them from using their judgement.

In Goa, 97 voters were deleted even though their EROs wanted them back.

In Maharashtra, EROs now disposing of "logical discrepancy" notices are held back by ECINet's restrictive options from using the discretion the law gives them.

The law gives the ERO a judgement to make. The software doesn't give the ERO the button to make it.

Another day, another @IndianExpress break on the EC.

Sept 23. Our investigation breaks. The EC responds the same day: its platforms are protected against "unauthorized tampering", and EROs "function as per statutory powers."

What we didn't know was this.

The very next day, Maharashtra's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) wrote to the EC in Delhi asking for FOUR changes to ECINet, so EROs could use the discretion the law already gives them.

The same concern Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had put on record.

The Indian Express got the data. Between March and July 2026, nearly 1.95 lakh blocking orders went to Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
That's around 1,275 every single day. One every 68 seconds.

A year earlier, the same Home Ministry portal sent about 6 orders a day. Six.

And when the story came out, the government's own "clarification" made it worse. It said the real number was nearly 2.98 lakh.

One order can cover hundreds of posts and accounts. Meta has plugged its system straight into the Home Ministry's portal, so flagged posts can disappear without any human even reviewing them.

यमुना किनारे बेला एस्टेट में 728 लोग रहते हैं। SIR के बाद वोटर लिस्ट में सिर्फ़ एक नाम बचा - बाकी 727 नाम काट दिए गए।

ये लोग दशकों से यहाँ रह रहे हैं। 2024 के लोकसभा चुनाव और 2025 के दिल्ली चुनावों में वोट डाल चुके हैं। 2023 में इनके घर तोड़ दिए गए थे - पर ये कहीं नहीं गए, यहीं हैं।

आज मैं इनकी झुग्गी में गया और सीधे इन्हीं से सुना कि चुनाव आयोग ने इनके साथ क्या किया है।

SDM से फ़ोन पर मैंने यही कहा - मकान होने या न होने का वोट के अधिकार से कोई रिश्ता नहीं है। ख़ुद CEC ज्ञानेश कुमार कह चुके हैं कि "हाउस नंबर 0" बेघरों के लिए है। फिर भी 727 लोगों का नाम काट दिया गया।

यह SIR नहीं - यह वोट चोरी का तरीक़ा है। जिनके पास पहले ही सबसे कम है, उनसे उनकी इकलौती ताक़त छीनी जा रही है।

ज्ञानेश कुमार तो जाएँगे। पर जिस सिस्टम ने उनसे यह करवाया, उसका हिसाब भी होगा।

This video gave me goosebumps. Maybe RG does not fit into the typical image we have of politicians. Maybe he is too good a person to play the kind of politics that politics demands but that is exactly why he is so deeply adored. Maybe his kind of politics takes time to reach people and sink in but I genuinely believe that his goodness, his sincerity and everything he stands for will eventually work out beautifully for him.

But then no one, who was accused of corruption, was ever found guilty and sent to jail

Most accused switched parties
They are still in power

But the hate for the congress continued
It felt unreal

The brain started feeling the hate was manufactured

So much so that right or wrong didn’t matter
What mattered was whom do you hate

The right or wrong got converted to love or hate

The loved ones stopped getting asked for accountability

All the accountability was for the ones being hated

The one that was being loved was always right
And the one being hated always wrong

In all this, logic suffered
India suffered

12 years, rush to today, the influencers are asking girls to keep an airgun to keep themselves safe

Ministers are seen slapping on camera and say they are justified in slapping, people who hate opposition are defending the minister

Honest IAS officers are pushed to margins for catering to people and for not catering to the egos of ministers

The wealth concentration in the hands of a few is peaking at the expense of not sharing the fruits of apparent growth with masses

Our top institutions enjoy the least trust
Raids on political opponents is a given
And the social unity at its lowest

All because people stopped seeing right as right and wrong as wrong and started seeing things as either being done by the one they love or the one they hate

Love was always right
Asking question to the loved ones became wrong

I don’t really know what’s the way out
Our votes now might not matter
Our dissent is being called anti national

The times seem only to become bleaker

And the only way to stop it is to hold the ones you love accountable .. they are more than the ones you love.. they are the government

And a lot of change can come if the ones who love ask questions

That’s the most nationalistic and loveable thing you could do for our country 🙏🙏
