my hetalia hyperfix probably wont die down anytime soon, but i do want to say that i am and always have been multifandom! if ppl unfollow cause of that its chill but i am deeply grateful to anyone who stays 🥹
my favorite interpretation was that arthur wanted a family in the way that humans have and raised alfred more like a son and not like a nation. which led to him actually having a reaction to the treatment arthur gave him later in life
I don’t even like him that much but no one knows how to characterize him… pure evil malicious ame is WRONG and so is innocent baby pure ame. He can be nuanced too
@G1zaMatxx I agree!!! I hope ppl don’t think I’m saying you CANT make them do bad things bc I do think they all have but there’s nuance to it,,. Balance is key
and also one last thing is that i simply dont think its possible to generalize the morals and beliefs of the people of a certain time period into One Guy. a guy that also already has a personality and is not a blank slate (which is what ch characters basically are)
I think SOME Hetalia fans are a little too into making the hetalia characters diabolically evil like they are people and have characterization beyond just the countries they represent 😭 go to countryhum@ns if u want them to be racist so bad
@blableblu2001 if you meant "feels like a campaign to make us empathize with these COUNTRIES" then id be more inclined to agree, but i personally feel like there is a level of separation between the hetalia characters and the irl country

@blableblu2001 The last sentence confuses me a bit, because we are supposed to like these characters. hetalia shouldnt be taken as an accurate depiction of the average mindset during those times, my issue is when people act like its a failing in its characterization when they aren't bigots
@milkoise YEAH BASICALLY... there's a certain degree of separation between the hetalia nations and the actual countries/the people of the countries... they don't always blindly follow the dominant beliefs of the time (though sometimes they do! like with religion)
@blableblu2001 i partially agree with you! but modern hetalia IS about the former rather than world war 2. i think added complexity during times like ww2 is a good thing, but i dont think the people who ceaslessly hc them as every kind of -phobe bc its "period accurate" are interested in that
@novayamaya I agree that it is strange when it’s only done to non white/european countries! I guess what I’m trying to say that making them “evil” in the first place doesn’t rly make sense to me bc it disregards existing characterization for the sake of being more “accurate”
No one asked but my opinion on their morality is that they can’t be classified as evil or good due to the circumstances of their existence as embodiments of a populations national identity. They just are whatever they are and are always changing. The choice is not theirs
