We are deeply saddened by the death of a civilian and the loss of an @SPVM officer who was killed in the line of duty today, protecting others. On behalf of the Toronto Police Service, I extend heartfelt condolences to their families and to our policing colleagues. We also have those injured, including another police officer, in our thoughts today.
Hundreds of Toronto Police members, alongside first responders, policing partners, and community members, lined the streets yesterday to honour Constable Marc Pinizzotto as he was escorted to the funeral home.
Thank you to the @OPP_News and Sgt. Ed Sanchuk for his moving tribute. The support shown to Marc’s family and our Toronto Police family during this difficult time is deeply appreciated.

Once again, while most people were sleeping, another police officer was injured protecting this city. Thankfully, this time, the officer was able to go home.
We have 18-year-olds, barely adults, involved in the murder of Officer Marc Pinizzotto and now another serious incident. The fact that we could have lost another member due to the actions of a 12-year-old is beyond frustrating.
These incidents should concern everyone. The blatant disrespect for our members, leading to injuries and even death, must come to an end.
We recognize the SIU has a job to do and we will support our members throughout this process. However, it is also time to focus on the actions of those who are putting our members in positions where they feel the use of force is their only option.
They were both murdered. They didn’t lose their lives, but they did have their life stolen from them. In the case of the OPP officer, It was allegedly by somebody in custody in mental health scenario who escaped from a hospital. In the case of the Toronto officer. It was allegedly connected to previous terror shooting events against our American allies, and also the Jewish community
Thank you @bluejays for recognizing and honouring the service and sacrifice of Emergency Task Force Constable Marc Pinizzotto and @OPP Constable Tarun Bali at tonight’s game.
Our policing family continues to grieve alongside their loved ones, colleagues, and communities. We are deeply grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support from across Toronto and throughout the country during this difficult time.
