What is the meaning of life?

According to a research, the meaning of life can be summed up in three words:

→ Coherence
→ purpose
→ significance

Coherence — a sense of comprehensibility and one’s life making sense and how events fit together.

This is an understanding that things happen in your life for a reason.

Purpose — a sense of core goals, aims, and direction in life.

This is the belief that you are alive in order to do something.

Significance — a sense of life’s inherent value and having a life worth living. It is life’s inherent value.

This is the sense that your life matters.

You can think of these three dimensions as macronutrients: the elements that we need for a balanced and healthy sense of meaning in life.

A sense that your life lacks meaning should provoke the question of whether you have a deficit in coherence, purpose, or significance.

However this relies on one very strong assumption—that life actually has meaning. Each of us has to decide whether we believe this is true.
