MEET THE BLOKYZ TEAM || BLOKYZ AMA RECAP
Tune into Re-Envisioning Web3: Meet the Blokyz team on August 30, hosted by @jed_131. The session brought founder @Ukj1111 and co-founder @MonkOnTheBlok on stage to discuss the vision behind @OriginalBlokyz, their professional backgrounds, and how physical collectibles, NFTs, and original storytelling fit into the brand’s development.
1. The Founders and Their Backgrounds
UJ: Financial Services, Strategy, and Web3 Relationships
- UJ described spending close to a decade in consulting, including serving as a director at Deloitte. His work focused on helping financial services clients streamline operations, with experience involving multinational banks and Fortune 100 companies.
- His introduction to Web3 came in 2021 while helping a Norway-based DeFi lending project develop its blueprint and white paper. An early experience sending stablecoins to collaborators in South Africa shaped his interest in blockchain: the transfer settled within seconds over a weekend and cost only a few cents.
- He contrasted that experience with the costly, slow, and difficult-to-track international transfers he encountered in traditional banking. He left Deloitte in 2022 and subsequently became an investor and adviser to Web3 projects, primarily on the token side.
- Those relationships helped Blokyz establish early connections across the broader crypto ecosystem. UJ named Arbitrum, Casper, KuCoin, CoinGecko, and meme IPs when discussing the networks the team could access.
Within Blokyz, UJ contributes financial knowledge, strategy, relationships, and a collector’s perspective. He emphasized his trust in his fellow founders, whom he has known for approximately ten years.
Monk: Operations, Comics, and Creative Development
- Monk and UJ studied for their MBAs together. After roughly five years in consulting, Monk joined Uber around 2016–2017, working in Trust & Safety across Asia-Pacific and later taking on a leadership role in that function.
- His creative interests include manga, anime, comics, worldbuilding, and design. UJ also described Monk’s involvement in a major South Asian anime and manga community, bringing Comic-Con to India, and working with Viz Media.
- Before Blokyz, Monk and UJ built a comics marketplace with more than 500 comic creators. According to Monk, some of the comics subsequently developed into live-action projects.
- That experience exposed a central challenge: distribution. Creating compelling IP was only part of the work; reaching an audience consistently was another major obstacle. Designer collectibles offered a way to collaborate with established IPs and introduce products to their existing communities.
Sculptor: Advertising, Gaming, and Production
- The third co-founder, introduced as @Sculptor_Blokyz , brings experience in advertising and the gaming industry. Monk described him as having run a major South Asian creative agency focused on gaming, with experience launching IPs associated with Riot, Supercell, and Blizzard in the region.
- The team credits him with helping build Blokyz’s in-house creative capabilities, spanning:
Comics and illustration.
Character and art assets.
Animation, including production from concept to completion.
- The founders presented their combination of creative direction, operational experience, commercial strategy, and collector insight as a foundation for building the brand.
2. Why Blokyz Started with NFTs
UJ explained that Blokyz was conceived as an NFT-first brand because the team wanted a strong cultural foundation.
In his view, token communities can change rapidly as prices rise and fall. NFTs can create a more personal connection: people adopt them as profile pictures, incorporate them into their online identities, and build relationships around shared ownership.
This is the team’s rationale for using NFTs to establish the community around Blokyz’s original IP.
To strengthen ties in the NFT ecosystem, Blokyz began working with @Tma_420 as an adviser in April 2026, after about two months of conversations. UJ credited TMA with opening doors to NFT founders and communities. The team also discussed his appointment as Chief Strategic Officer, leading broader growth strategy.
3. The Product Vision: A Modern-Day Bearbrick
Monk distinguished designer collectibles from other categories such as trading cards, licensed character figures, and collectibles built around a single franchise.
The opportunity Blokyz sees is a recognizable design format that can accommodate many different IPs. The team pointed to Funko Pop, Bearbrick, and Kidrobot as established examples in the traditional collectibles market.
Their assessment is that this category remains relatively underdeveloped in Web3.
When asked directly about the long-term goal, Monk described Blokyz as a modern-day Bearbrick. The current format would serve as a starting point, with potential expansion into different sizes and levels of premiumness.
4. Distribution Through IP Collaborations
Blokyz’s distribution strategy builds on the founders’ experience in comics: partner with IPs that already have an audience, then introduce those audiences to the Blokyz format.
Monk used CoinGecko as an example. After the team created a collectible for the brand, CoinGecko shared it with its users. According to Monk, that exposure generated millions of views when Blokyz had only around a thousand followers.
For audiences outside Web3, the proposed approach is to produce collectibles featuring IPs they already recognize.
Monk described the potential collecting journey through a Funko comparison: someone might begin with a One Piece or Marvel figure, then expand into other franchises, sports, or music. Over time, an attachment to the collectible format itself can encourage exploration beyond the original IP.
For Blokyz, the expectation is that collectors attracted by familiar brands could eventually discover its Web3 collaborations and original characters.
5. Physical Collectibles and NFT Ownership
Blokyz is developing both NFTs and physical collectibles, but the team clarified that a bespoke physical replica of every individual NFT is unlikely to be feasible.
The physical products use factory-made molds and are then hand-painted. Producing a unique mold and manufacturing run for a single NFT would be economically prohibitive.
The planned physical offering instead includes:
- Limited collaborative releases with other brands.
- Exclusive Blokyz physical drops.
- Future releases featuring characters and archetypes from the original NFT collection.
The Top 100 Leaderboard Reward
The top 100 participants on the leaderboard were promised a limited edition blue Blokyz collectible, with 100 units allocated to that reward.
This is the blue character used in the brand’s profile image and identity for more than a year. At the time of the conversation, the team was still working through logistics and intended to announce the fulfillment process separately.
Original IP Releases
Monk confirmed that a primary long-term purpose of the NFT collection is to establish original IP that can support physical collectibles.
The team intends to build recognition for that IP before expanding production. Releases would be selective, for example, introducing one archetype at a time rather than immediately producing thousands of figures across the entire collection.
6. Comics and the Blokyz verse
Comics are a central part of the founders’ plans for developing the original universe.
Monk said the team was working with multiple writers who had already written and produced comics. Stories and scripts set in the Blokyz verse were under review, with a writing-team announcement expected after those reviews.
He also said Blokyz was onboarding artists with experience on official Marvel comics, including Spider-Man and Venom, to help develop the artwork.
This referred to the artists’ professional backgrounds; the discussion did not announce a Marvel partnership.
At the time of the AMA, Monk anticipated making some comics-related announcements. The team did not provide a firm publication date or a detailed release schedule.
7. Why a Trading Card Game Is Not the Immediate Priority
The founders have not ruled out a trading card game, and Monk believes the collection’s structure could support one.
However, he identified two practical considerations:
- A well-designed TCG requires substantial time and skilled game designers.
- The market already contains many competing TCG projects.
If Blokyz pursues a TCG, Monk wants it to be a game people enjoy playing, with collecting driven by attachment to its characters and gameplay. He cited Azuki as an example of the direction he finds compelling.
For now, the team sees a stronger opportunity in designer collectibles and intends to focus its resources there. A TCG remains a possible future expansion, with no development commitment or launch date announced.
8. Raffle and Reveal: Brief Highlights
Raffle
Approximately $65M entering the raffle. UJ said participation exceeded expectations, helped by attention from both NFT and token communities, social sharing, and leaderboard activity. The team had modeled extreme entry scenarios and designed the allocation mechanism to address unusually large entries and wallet-splitting strategies.
Reveal
The reveal was designed around a physical blind-box experience. An intermediate stage would disclose the NFT’s era and, where applicable, faction, followed by explanations of the six eras, archetypes, traits, and rarity before the final character reveal.
The team hoped this would help collectors understand the collection before deciding what to keep or trade. Publishing rarity odds in advance was described as an intention, subject to feasibility.
9. Closing Takeaways
The broader direction described by the @OriginalBlokyz founders is consistent: build a community through NFTs, reach audiences through IP collaborations, grow the physical collectible business, and deepen the original universe through comics and creative production.
The immediate priorities discussed were physical fulfillment, the collection reveal, TMA’s expanded role, and progress on comics. Larger physical ranges, additional technology products, and a possible TCG remained future development areas.
P/S: And yes, having observed Blokyz since early in the year, after learning about their base and what they were planning: I got myself a new PFP.
