It's one of those weeks...on Wednesday, the ICIS NBP September closed at 116.125p/th ($16.1/MMBtu), the highest ever NBP front-month close in its 25-year history. The TTF was already at a record high - with Asian spot prices following up as a result!
We have now seen three LNG vessel diversions potentially linked to the Suez Canal closure. Two are in the Atlantic and with one vessel that loaded from Algeria which was broadcasting Suez but is now heading west
European gas prices are jumping! The ICIS TTF benchmark February '21 market was trading at around $10/MMBtu on Tuesday afternoon, up by over 20% from Monday. The market is on course to reach the highest prices since 2013 - and will go higher if more LNG is needed
The ICIS East Asia LNG Index closed at $8.95/MMBtu for January ’21 on Thursday, that’s up 30% in the last couple of weeks.
Portfolio optimisation has lifted prices, but strong spot demand from buyers in India and China is also playing a significant role.

Asian spot #LNG prices have hit a record low. The #ICIS East Asia Index for March is now under $3.00/MMBtu, below the usual floor Dutch TTF #gas price. Activity will pick up in China as the extended holiday period ends but the global market will stay long
