What it’s like to receive a job offer directly from Satya Nadella. @kelseyhightower, former Google Distinguished Engineer, on the Microsoft offer that revealed a pay tier he didn't know existed:
“I got this email from Satya, the CEO of Microsoft.
He wrote this nice email: 'Kelsey, heard you had a good experience with the team' - remember I did the interview at the Microsoft headquarters - “heard really good things from the team, just wanted to let you know, you're going to be respected here. We're going to support you as a team.”
I'm like, damn, support as a team? Coming from the CEO?
So, number one, what an honor. This is the CEO of Microsoft. He has so many more important things to be doing than to be emailing me about a role. I opened the PDF - not very often in your career does a zero get added to the equation. And so you're looking at this like, I didn't even know that they do that.
We know that it happens. But the person that graduated from high school in 1999, that chose the A+ Certification didn't know that was available. Even while I was at Google having all the success. Google paid me pretty well too, but I didn't know you can add another zero still.
And I'm like, wow. I showed my wife and she was the one that said you should just go interview, like put your ego to the side and let's go see what's out there, so shout out to my wife.
And so I get the PDF, and I'm like, okay, this number is perfect. Honestly, I don't know what to say, but let’s just find out, is this really the only number? So I remember giving a counter: you know what, I think it should be this.
The funny thing is, Microsoft countered back higher, like we're not playing around. I'm like, oh, whoa. Now I understand that I don't understand this part of the game.”
If I join cult sef I no sure say I fit cram all those their many many orientations for head 😂😭

Chai! tears streaming down his cheeks. He knows his life and that of the family will never remain the same again. Ein papa no even understand wetin de happen.
Zadok all of Nigeria is rooting for you, straight into our FPLs, arguments, banter & conversations. You’re here to stay.
This mentality is exactly why I didn’t join my fellow interns for our internship send-off. I stood in the corner and watched as everyone took photos and made videos. Some of them were leaving the country the following week, while others had already enrolled for NYSC and had fancy temporary jobs lined up. But me? I had no plans, no hope, and I was terrified of returning home. I even refused to go with them to the club that night.
While I was scrolling through their IG stories that night, I saw a job opening, reluctantly applied even though I wasn’t qualified (they wanted someone with post-NYSC experience), and smoothly got the job within two weeks.
As glad as I was, I still wished I had joined my friends in the celebration. I wish I hadn’t worried so much about tomorrow that I missed out on having fun and creating those irreplaceable memories.
I always remind myself and the people around me: live in the moment more than you worry about tomorrow.
Fuck it and have fun when you can!
That boy has literally been the signpost for Pepsi for the past few weeks. I didn’t even know Pepsi had a no sugar, until he posted , he has created enough memes already that works perfectly as an Ad. He doesn’t have to shoot a video
I genuinely want to ask the senior developers how do you all sometime manage to immediately come up with "Okay, we can do X and Y so that Z works this way"
in my opinion its a way of thinking
in general I start with something that my senses connect to more intuitively than software .... Like how would i build a city for example ?? or chain of walmarts ??
There are lots and lots of things to practice this on - if I take the metro, start looking around and figuring out how it was built? how will it be maintained? what would I do differently?
Change metro to mall, car dealership, dating sites, condominium complexes - whatever I can connect to
Then start bringing that approach to software components like reddit, database, programming languages, AWS, Internet and so on.
