the #1 thing that got me back into reading this year was seeing the rapid acceptance of AI for its convenience as its interwoven into our infrastructure. we’re creating a mass illiteracy problem. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of maintaining the skills to do it yourself.
@SaffronOlive Piggy-backing on this, but a design philosophy I’ve come to loathe as of late is aggressive use of “one or more” in design or giving random activated abilities the sorcery speed clause.
Magic Twitch views are almost back to pre Arena numbers. MTG failed as an esport because it priced out the viewer base.
The only people who can afford to play are 30+ with disposable income. That is why MTG viewers are 10-15 years older than avg in the gaming industry.
No one wants to watch a game they can't afford. How do you aspire to be the best when you don't have $300 for an online manabase to even try?
The top viewed games focus on growing the player base. Wizards focuses on seeing how far they can push the MSRP of basic game pieces to existing players.
Rather than creating an accessible game they have turned to UB to bring in whales from other IPs to compensate for the players they are pricing out.
