I Control students learn about a brain skill called Shifting. This means changing the way we think about something or react to something. A student may be upset they aren’t able to eat lunch with their friend. They can shift to see this as an opportunity for new friends!
In Unit 1, I Control students learn about executive functions or brain skills. One of these is working memory! We use this brain skill when we hold information in our mind for a short period of time so we can use it 💡
In Unit 4 of the I Control curriculum, students learn social problem solving skills by looking at different types of problems and how to solve them step-by-step using IC skills. #icontrol
IC students learn how to calm down when they encounter difficult emotional situations through mindfulness and relaxation techniques. When students learn to be aware and relax in difficult situations, they can make better decisions. #icontrol
During Unit 3, I Control students learn how to label different emotions, physical signs of emotions, what emotions help communicate to ourselves and others in social situations, and in what situations people experience the common emotions. #icontrol#ebd
Have you ever set and achieved a goal? When we commit to our goals, we’re more likely to achieve success if our goals are aligned with our values! Values are the ideals and beliefs that we care about most. They can be things like health, family, friends, and education!
The Brain Training Lab is the last stop on our curriculum series! This computerized program feels like a game to our students while they practice their executive function skills like inhibitory control, working memory, and shifting! #ebd#specialed#icontrol#executivefunction
The fourth and final unit of the I Control curriculum provides students with explicit instruction on how to solve social problems including identifying the problem, developing solution options, testing one or more of those options, and evaluating the outcome. #ebd#specialed#uf
The third unit of the I Control curriculum teaches students about identifying emotions, feelings, and triggers and strategies students can use to cope with big emotions. #icontrol#ebd#emotions#uf#specialeducation
The IC curriculum includes 4 units, the first focusing on an Introduction to I Control! In this unit, students are given an overview of what I Control lessons will look like and the “brain skills” they will focus on strengthening. #icontrol#executivefunction#selfregulation#ebd
Last week our research team submitted 3 presentation proposals to the Council for Exceptional Children’s Conference which focus on goal-setting as it relates to self-regulation, explicit SEL instruction, and virtual or hybrid methods to delivering SEL instruction #icontrol#cec
COVID-19 & remote learning created challenges for not only academic instruction but also social-emotional learning instruction. The SEL Providers Council has created a list of FREE resources parents can utilize at home. https://t.co/rHblMsJbjc 😊
Check out our new video, created as part of @CECDResearch’s “Research Matters” initiative to collect stories about how research in special ed and related fields is making a difference for exceptional children, people with disabilities, and their families. https://t.co/DybU4BiEGR
Teachers ranked both the appeal and ease of use each with an average rating of 4.9 and ranked I Control's effectiveness with an average rating of 4.6 on a six-point scale where a six is strongly agree.
