자신이 나쁜 사람이라고 스스로 생각하는 사람이 아닌 한 민주주의에 대한 공자님 말씀인 이 말에 화낼 이유가 없습니다. 도둑조차도 도둑질은 나쁘다는 말에 속으로 화가 날 지언정 겉으로 화를 내지는 않습니다.

민주주의의 기본원리와 선거참여를 강조하는 말이 선거운동이나 정치중립의무 위반이라 생각하는 사람이 있다면 그는 어머니나 유초등 선생님을 찾아 스스로의 도덕적 민주적 판단기준이 온당한 지 극히 초보적인 의논을 해 볼 필요가 있습니다.

민주공화국에서 정치적 판단의 기준은 상식과 국민이어야 하고, 정치는 누군가를 욕하며 우연한 실패의 반사이익을 노리는 것이 아니라 잘하기 경쟁이어야 합니다.

이런 점에서 "많은 국민이 투표했으면" 하는 이명박 전 대통령의 말이나 "반드시 투표에 참여해달라"는 박근혜 전 대통령의 말에 대해 아무도 이것이 반론하지 않습니다. 맞는 말이기 때문입니다.
