@EpiroteReport#Albania’s Gov still can't guarantee running water or health. I know Alb who paid over $20K for a parent’s cancer treatment. One mother paid $100 for a morphine injection so her dying son could have peace. When even dignity in death comes at a price, something is profoundly wrong
I grew up on these very streets now burning. They were home, & always will be. As children, we faced police brutality protesting dictatorship. Decades later, a new generation fights corruption on the same streets. I reject violence, but history echoes. #Albania deserves better!🇦🇱
🚨🇦🇱: #Albania: Protesters have set fire to the Ministry of Education building in #Tirana as student-led demonstrations against Prime Minister Edi Rama continue to escalate.
University and high school students have joined the “Flamingo Revolution”, demanding Rama’s resignation amid growing anger over the government. Protesters have chanted slogans including “Down with the dictatorship” and “Rama in prison, Berisha in prison.”
Thank you, @RepKeithSelf Meaningful reform in #Albania must begin with accountability & respect for the rule of law. Leaders implicated in corruption must be held accountable & step aside to restore public trust and pave the way for a better future for all Albanians.
The protests in Albania are a culmination of the people’s distrust of corrupt politicians and fatigue over the total disregard for the rule of law. Albania’s leaders need to heed the calls for substantive changes that will yield economic opportunity and foster regional stability.
Thank you @repjoewilson for highlighting #Albania. After centuries of oppression, Albanians cherish freedom. From students seeking a future to pensioners struggling to survive on $150 a month, every voice matters. True friendship stands with the Albanian people & the rule of law.
I am watching with great concern the escalating crisis in NATO Ally Albania. The Albanian people deserve freedom, rule of law, and institutional accountability. The government must refrain from all violence against protestors. Young people deserve a voice in the future of their country.
I've always enjoyed my trips to Qatar & have nothing but respect for its wonderful people and hospitality. But today I'll be cheering for #Xhaka and #Jashari, & perhaps showing a little bias toward my #Albanian roots.
