“...the end of Christmas Day and there’s nothing else to say” apart from @smithandburrows When the Thames froze is the essence of 2020 in a song “....and all the things that we planned...” “...let’s hope the next beats the last”
The problem with cropping out the the title, subtitle and units off my chart here is that we now have Covid-skeptics saying "look, only 8 people in hospital aged under 65!"
The figures are per 100,000, which works out at 1,802 under-65s. And that is just for the last week.
It's just a great chart.
Move left within panel = enter safer environment
Move up within panel = do safer activity
Move to left hand panel = social distancing
Move up one panel = keep it brief
Move up two panels = mask up
Move upwards & leftwards to minimise risk ⬆️⬅️😇
It remains really odd that the UK govt watched what happened in Scotland with exam results, knew the same thing would happen in England, but carried on anyway. Students, parents et al have been warning about precisely this happening for weeks.
Me parenting at the beginning of lockdown:
"Shall we paint some stones and leave them outside of people's houses to make them smile?"
Me parenting at the end of lockdown:
"You can have have a twix for breakfast if you let me have a lie-in."
Barnard Castle Eye Test Update:
It was the most demand we have ever seen for a beer.
The traffic crashed our @BrewDog website for 9 hours.
We sold 648,768 cans (all we could make).
This enabled us to make & donate over 100,000 bottles of sanitiser.
Hope you guys enjoyed it!
But the govt is sitting on a much more complete dataset including pillar 2, which tells a completely different story
More than 90% of new cases in Leicester are now under pillar 2, yet these numbers are not public. If you’re a local biz owner in Leicester, you only see the blue.
NEW with @AndyBounds, @sarahnev & @Laura_K_Hughes:
The UK government’s published numbers of new cases at local authority level only include pillar 1 and *not* pillar 2 cases, meaning as many as 90% of new cases are missing from the data

Thread:
It’s with a heavy heart that we must announce that we won’t be opening on the 4th of July under the Guidelines which the Government has released this week.
It’s our belief that the government are ignoring the advice that science is telling us.
If you go ANYWHERE with food or drink PLEASE take a bag for your RUBBISH and TAKE IT HOME. #DontBeATosser@KeepBritainTidy Our litter is our responsibility, it’s not down to “the council”, they collect from our homes, they shouldn’t have to collect it from our beaches.
NEW: we’ve updated our excess mortality tracker, the best measure for international comparisons of Covid deaths
• US hit 122k a month ago, by far the highest worldwide
• UK 2nd on 66k
• Added Ecuador, world’s highest excess death *rate*
