Coimbatore is staring at massive growth in key sectors like IT, defense engineering, manufacturing, and textiles, yet a true mass transit backbone remains completely missing.

Rather than waiting indefinitely for an intra-city Metro, we can immediately unlock regional mobility using our existing railway alignments. However, without proactive capacity additions, high-frequency local services will quickly collapse under track congestion.

Crucially, even if track laying happens in phases (optimistically in a dacade), detailed surveys and land acquisition must happen NOW—before real estate prices along these booming peri-urban corridors turn astronomically prohibitive.

Key interventions needed:

🔹 Quadruple the Tiruppur–Coimbatore–Palakkad trunk route: Freight and long-distance expresses saturate this line. Without dedicated 3rd & 4th tracks, suburban trains will perpetually suffer crossing delays and poor punctuality.

🔹 Double the Mettupalayam & Pollachi lines: These single-line bottlenecks severely throttle commuter links to the Nilgiris base and southern Tamil Nadu.

A dedicated Coimbatore Suburban Railway is the low-hanging fruit the Kongu belt needs today.

A ride through the Avinashi Road flyover offers a stunning view of Coimbatore from the majestic Western Ghats to beautiful mid-rise buildings and colourful flower-lined medians.

The only thing missing? A modern skyline with skyscrapers.

Hope the government recognises Coimbatore’s potential and relaxes height restrictions, at least along this primary corridor of the city, to enable vertical growth. 🏙️🌄
