Three years after a Home Office historian wrote a report outlining the racist immigration legislation
"designed to reduce the proportion of people living in the UK who did not have white skin"
the department has today been forced to publish the study

Coverage in the @Independent of our latest report @Medical_Justice
Our findings reflect what characterises many forced removals-mass round ups, large numbers detained, including vulnerable ppl with torture + trafficking histories, fear the country they are being forcibly sent to.
Victims of torture and trafficking, including women, were rounded up for deportation to Rwanda before the election, a report from a medical rights charity has found.
Report based on case files of 30 of @Medical_Justice 's clients

One year on since the Brook House Inquiry, only one of the 33 recommendations accepted and the risk of abuse continues in detention

The richest 1% of Britons hold more wealth than 70% of the population, and the four richest individuals have more wealth than 20 million Britons.
Austerity is, and always has been, a political choice.
A great job going at the absolutely brilliant @Medical_Justice.
This has been my role for the past 3.5 years - happy to have a chat and answer any questions about the job and org!

Not much to say about the government's priorities for an #immigration policy announced last night other than it's disappointing that the emphasis ends up projecting false narratives about immigration & migrants, just when we've had race riots because other people projected false narratives about immigration & migrants. And without a word of support to communities under threat, or those who mistakenly believe they're under threat, the government emerges as part of the problem. Not having ideas & plans for dealing with the inevitable global movement of people, detaining vulnerable people, raiding businesses where these days you'll mostly find hardworking people eeking out a subsistence wage, most with the right to be in the UK, & ignoring our responsibilities under several treaties & conventions, won't stop the criminal gangs, sadly. Time for a rethink, & time to stop weaponising migrants which in turn puts them, & by extension, all Black & Brown people at risk.
🔴 Self-Harm Rates in UK Immigration Centres Soar Following Report That Found ‘Worst Conditions Ever Seen’

A brilliant organisation whose work I cannot commend highly enough. I have been hugely privileged to work with them on a number of issues and their values, compassion and humanity shine through everything they do.
Racist violence is horrible because it’s racist not because it’s “stupid” or “uninformed” - its actually the logical conclusion of all messages we receive… it’s manifesting the dehumanisation salaried politicians and journalists and academics have spouted for decades!!
The longest sentence handed down to a violent racist rioter this week is shorter than the sentences imposed on entirely peaceful environmental protesters last month.
Labour must repeal the Tory laws that treat peaceful protest more severely than violent disorder and assault.
“Swarms”
“Invasion”
“Hurricane”
For years, rightwing politicians and sections of the media have scapegoated migrants and asylum seekers, demonised Muslims, and emboldened racists.
Far-right violence doesn’t come out of nowhere. Those who stir up hate must be held accountable.

New guidance on adults at risk in detention, coming into force 21 May, risks weaking the protections available for vulnerable people in immigration detention

It does not address the fundamental flaws in the safeguarding process that you identified in the Brook House Inquiry.
And is coming at a time where the government plans to expand detention, including for removals to Rwanda.
MJ has been evidencing this harm for 18 yrs. Our latest analysis of medico-legal reports by our independent clinicians for detained clients found that 74% were recorded as having self-harmed, suicidal thoughts &/or attempted suicide.
