#WATCH | Delhi | On US President Donald Trump's statement on Indian Rice export, Vice President of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation, Dev Garg says, "... All the exports of the US market are demand-driven... We have seen that there has been an increasing trend in Indian rice exports to the US market as the popularity of Indian and South Asian dishes have grown in the US market... Because Indian rice has a very distinct flavor, texture, and color palette... The American-grown rice is not a like-for-like substitute for Indian rice... So all the exports from India, and India is not 'dumping' any rice in the US market, however, and the demand remains robust and resilient... It is not a favour that the US consumer is doing for India, but it is the requirement of the US market... Largely the realization for Indian farmers and exporters have remained consistent, however, all the tariff hike has been borne by the US consumer, who has borne the brunt of this tariff increase which has resulted in domestic food inflation in the US market... We are working closely with different stakeholders, including the government, to expand India's reach into newer markets. Recently, we have identified the Philippines as a huge potential market for further rice exports. Today we only hold a 4% market share in the Philippines market, which is a 10 times larger market than the US market put together. So any steep increase or any further increase in US tariffs will be detrimental to the US consumer itself and will have minimal impact on Indian trade."
#WATCH | Union Minister Piyush Goyal says, "Agriculture has always been the soul of our civilisation, with rice as the pride of our farmers. The BIRC 2025, Bharat International Rice Conference, the world's largest rice event with farmers, global buyers and stakeholders brought together under one roof, is being held at the Bharat Mandapam on October 30-31, this year. This will be a symbol of India's rice diversity, quality standards and also strengthen business-to-business linkages. I am sure this will also accelerate our vision to double agri and agri-based exports in the next 5 years, with trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his promise that our farmers' welfare will be primary to our trade negotiations and that we will never compromise with the interests of our farmers. So let us dream big, plan boldly for the future. Let us go beyond the largest exporter tag towards being the most trusted global brand. The way forward will be to identify and support the promotion of value-added innovative rice products and enable new market access. Let us all contribute to Viksit Bharat 2047. Let us all contribute to a better future for our farmers. I wish you great success."
#WATCH | Delhi: Dev Garg, Vice President of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation and Director of Shri Lal Mahal Group, says, "Today, India is reshaping the global food supply chain. We are standing at a pivotal point in India's economic history because today India has become the largest producer of rice in the world. Our production has crossed a record 145 million metric tonnes. Today, we have not just become the largest producer but we have also established our dominance in global food supply chain as India commands 40% market share in global rice share...Today, countless countries depend on Indian rice for their survival. India exports rice to about 172 countries. Today, rice is a very important sector for India. As the Commerce Minister has stated, today India has to become not just the largest producer and exporter of rice, but we have to become the most reliable partner to the global market so that the world can depend on us going ahead. In backdrop of this, the Bharat International Rice Conference is being organized on 30th-31st Oct 2025...With this conference, we are bringing the largest ever gathering of the rice industry. This will change the discourse from foreign soil and bring it to domestic shores..."

#WATCH | Delhi: On GST reforms, Dev Garg, Vice President of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF), says, "GST reform is not just a tax reform, it is an economic reform. This will create a huge wave of new growth opportunities, job creation and this will supercharge the economy. The export community has benefited in many ways. The time limit for GST registration has now been reduced to three days. Earlier, a new GST registration used to take more than 30 to 40 days and this was a very challenging aspect for any large exporter. In case of agri goods, all exporters export from various ports depending on viability. If we specifically talk about rice, an exporter may export from Kandla port, from Vizag port, from Mumbai port or from Kakinada port and wherever he feels that there is economic viability, he will undertake exports from that place... Today, by bringing in this new legislation and these changes, the GST registration time has been reduced enabling any exporter to make exports from any port from wherever he pleases and wherever there is economic viability increases his speed and reaction to the market... On behalf of 7,500 exporters of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation, I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for bringing in this economic reform, which will take our country to new heights and increase the strength of our economy."
