In light of the conversations on the TL on sexual violence,we as the Idhini KE team would like to remind you that informed consent should always be at the centre of any sexual activity, meaning that both parties can consciously & voluntarily choose to engage in the sexual activity
This is a reminder on ways victim blaming manifests itself in society.
Sexual violence is never the victim's fault, no matter where they were, what they were wearing, who they were with, whether they were intoxicated or not, or the reason they were in that location.
Thank you to everyone who joined the IG live tonight ! It was such an informative and interesting session with @nyxwanga & @snyambura_ .
More to come in future... Let's keep having #ConvosOnConsent 🙌🏾💛
Any form of emotional or physical manipulation can be used. E.g.
- Threat of physical harm
- Using the words ‘but if you love me’
- Saying someone owed you
- Claiming that you’ve done it before
- Tears
- Using your past sexual encounters with others
Do you know any more?
Great point. There is the false belief that a man will have sex with you just because he is a man. Similarly just because a lady has had sexual interactions with people you know is not a reason for you to try convince her to sleep with you as well
#ConvosOnConsent
No one should feel like they ‘owe’ someone sex regardless of their relationship.
Again this takes away freedom to give or not give consent.
#ConvosOnConsent
This is manipulating someone into sexual activity which is a violation of their free will.
Manipulation takes away enthusiasm and freedom to make a decision.
#ConvosOnConsent
Interesting perspective. Thank you for bringing both sides into the picture.
If your partner is not fulfilling your needs, there’s no need to try convince them.
#ConvosOnConsent
Begging or being persistent is coercion. If your partner does not give you an enthusiastic and free yes , insisting is coercing them into the act which is a violation of their decision
#ConvosOnConsent
The correct answer is Yes. One CAN be sexually violated even if they said yes.
Instances may include :
- when they withdraw consent and this is disregarded
- When their partner does a sexual act that that did not consent to
Thank you for your response. No one should feel they need to enable in sexual activity with anyone.
No is a complete answer on its own but it would be nice to offer your partner an explanation.
Hey ! We hope your week is off to a great start.
