@blindingblade yeah, if it bothered you in babel you'll probably see more of it in poppy war because it's definitely less polished than babel. all mostly recent stuff - the main character is 'inspired by' mao zedong and it draws heavily from japanese wwii war crimes, particularly nanjing.

@blindingblade poppy war is uh. if you don't know anything about chinese history it's probably a cool read. if you do, it's really fuckin' weird because a lot of things are ripped wholesale from history and amalgamated into a very shallow reading that's often used for tasteless shock value.

@blindingblade gideon is really fun and has very cool world-building, but it also has a very distinct 2010s ao3 style - you can really tell the author got her start writing homestuck 'fic. i liked it a lot, but be warned that each book is vastly and jarringly different from the others in style.

@kouraidontmiss i enjoyed it a lot! but it's definitely quirky (?) and each book is a huge departure in style from the previous book. you can feel the homestuck 'fic influences.

i really enjoyed watching this! it's silly and it's definitely cringe, but you could tell the producers really /got/ esports. they treated the scene with both the respect and the ridiculousness it deserves.
