I'm currently accepting #paleoart sketch commissions! $50 AUD for a sketch of a dinosaur or other prehistoric animal of your choice, like these below! ($30 AUD for monochrome if you'd prefer)
Deep Cuts: A #Linoprinting Journey to the Seafloor
No. 1 - Black Dragonfish, Idiacanthus atlanticus
Made this toothy gal at a linocut workshop, I thought the black and white would go well with a deep sea subject matter and accidentally kickstarted an entire series of these
@CpgSthlm Using in an AI-generated image in the same thread as a gorgeous piece by Beth Zaiken is wild. Clearly you know how to use real art by skilled illustrators so why turn to generative AI trained on stolen work?
Just watched the first episode of this tonight and thought it was awesome! Great to see @Phoebyornis and @DiprotoRon showing off their stuff (and the Flinders prep lab looking tidier than I've ever seen it!)
Not had enough of our 'giga-goose'? πͺΏ Neither have we!
Great news for any Aussies π¦πΊ you can catch @Phoebyornis on new @ABCaustralia show, #MegafaunaABC as they uncover what killed Australia's giants featuring Genyornis newtoni and many other megafauna π¦΄
New lightbox #paleoart featuring #Diprotodon optatum, the largest known marsupial to ever live! Made using watercolour paper and printer paper cut with a scalpel. First time I've tried mixing different paper types, they give a lovely contrast of warm and cool tones when lit up!
I actually had the amazing experience of working as a preparator on this specimen at @MAG_NT's palaeontology lab at Megafauna Central in Alice Springs, which you can read more about here! https://t.co/A3MpanMHfX
The environment is inspired by the Victoria River Downs region of the Northern Territory, an area we know Diprotodon inhabited thanks to fossils from Auvergne Station which show these giant marsupials' range extended much further north than we previously knew!
@Sophiesaurus98 Slight correction that the Luis Rey art is actually Sinusonasus, but I remember that illustration so fondly from Holtz's encyclopedia, one of the books that really cemented the idea of feathered dinosaurs in my head as a kid!
We have lift-oβuughβ¦ run off? Today, our description of the skull of ππ¦π―πΊπ°π³π―πͺπ΄ π―π¦πΈπ΅π°π―πͺ, which was a major part of @Phoebyornis's PhD thesis, is published in Historical Biology.
It's great to finally put a face to a name!

@Paleosculpts I'm kinda suspicious that visually they look like video screenshots but he hasn't shared an actual video which would surely be much stronger evidence. Also the angle and level of detail of the grass in some of these is setting off ai warning bells in my head
@red_pill_junkie @iriscompietart if it's for drawing/painting I'd highly recommend Krita, it's completely free and similar to photoshop but designed specifically as an art program https://t.co/rPyXT76D0l
