@T4Zz7@MancunienRouge If United were to spend £50m on a backup winger from a relegated team, it sets a bad precedent that other clubs would use to jack up prices on our targets.
Mateus Fernandes already costs £60m-£80m and Hall would cost £60m. Another midfielder and backup striker are also needed.
@Fordyy101@miraclebrian23@atate274@UtdBart I agree with you there. I don't really like Fernandes all that much but there really doesn't seem to be another option that fits what Carrick wants now that Anderson is off the cards. Hall is a must, and I'd be happy with either Diomande or Barcola if the club wants a winger.
@Fordyy101@miraclebrian23@atate274@UtdBart If you want a backup LW, Rashford is already there. Why splash £50m on that position when you could be using it on the multitude of other holes in the squad?
We still lack a midfielder or two, a left back and a backup striker, and all of United's targets there cost >£60m.
@T4Zz7@MancunienRouge Amrabat, Fred, Brandon Williams, van de Beek, Mason Mount, etc are all hard workers. None of them are good deals at £50m. Why is it different for Summerville?
@Fordyy101@miraclebrian23@atate274@UtdBart Also note that Trossard had 9 G/A in 17 games before Arsenal signed him, and 11 G/A in 35 games in his last full season with Brighton. That's 20 G/A in 52 games, which is more than double Summerville's abhorrent 9 G/A in 50 games.
And £50m for a backup is ALWAYS bad business.
@Fordyy101@miraclebrian23@atate274@UtdBart Trossard cost them £27m, which is perfectly fine for a squad player. Summerville will cost £50m, which is an absolutely disgusting price to pay for a backup player even with inflated market prices.
@Fordyy101@miraclebrian23@atate274@UtdBart Football twitter loves overhyping awful players who have one or two good moments at the World Cup. Happens every single WC, without fail. A winger with 6 goals and 3 assists in 50 games, as well as an unbelievably low football IQ, is suddenly worth €50m somehow.
@Cle_Etc@UTDRivon Obviously it's worrying that United were forced to play him because the only other like-for-like replacement we had was Ugarte. Which is why I hate that the club is targeting three 8s and not a single DM to rotate in if a double pivot of two 8s doesn't work.
@livescripter@Cle_Etc@UTDRivon Duels won is also important, since a good DM is expected to win 50-50s and prevent play from progressing up the middle. Casemiro, with his 52.7% win rate (Below the 50th percentile of ALL Prem DMs) frequently allows attackers to run by him or commits an easily avoidable foul.
@Cle_Etc@UTDRivon All of these stats are literally one google search away, by the way. They aren't made up just because they don't support what you believe.
I don't have any opinion on Ancelotti, but Casemiro is an absolute liability in defense in open play, and has been for years.
@Cle_Etc@UTDRivon To add on, Casemiro was dribbled past 21 times in 18 Prem games under Amorim and 4 times in 2 games under Fletcher. 25 times in 17 Prem games under Carrick.
@Cle_Etc@UTDRivon 1v1 take-ons are ground duels. The stat I mentioned is directly related to defensive ground duels.
As for your other point, let's do bigger teams then. Rice was dribbled past 14 times. Rodri, 15. Caicedo, 24. Onana, 11. There is no excuse for a DM at United to be have 50.
@PapalMadrid@UTDRivon You watched him at Madrid when he was still elite. I watched him at United where he has been a traffic cone in defense.
He was dribbled past 50 times in the Prem this season. The DMs of the three relegated teams (Soucek, Florentino, Andre) have 24, 36 and 37 respectively.
@Cle_Etc@UTDRivon Casemiro was dribbled past 50 times in the Premier League alone this season. The DMs of the three relegated teams (Soucek with 24, Florentino with 36, Andre with 37) aren't even close to being as much of a traffic cone as he is. What I've been saying is statistically factual.
@UnitedPulx@Ellis_ We didn't have anyone to replace him with. That's why he was starting. It doesn't take away from how much of a traffic cone he was in midfield.
@AmanDoyee92626@CrewsMat10 0 WC knockout goals in 22 years, 8 goals in total across 5 world cups. He was historically awful in the world cup even when he was in his prime, and you somehow think that he'll magically score 5 when he's playing at his absolute worst?
