🚨 I just read something that made my stomach drop.

Guys… we’re really one breakdown away from the lights going out.

Our power reserve is sitting at just 3.3%.

Back in January, it was a solid 20.73%. Now it’s crashed to 3.34%.

And peak demand has already hit 2,549 MW.

Wind and solar give us 20% of our power… but the second the sun goes down or the wind dies, they’re gone. No batteries to save us.

Of course, it hits hardest between 6 and 10pm, when you’re cooking, kids are doing homework, and shops are still open.

One plant fails or one delay from Ethiopia.

Suddenly: blackouts will occur.

This doesn’t feel like a “maybe later” problem.

It feels like it’s already at the door.

Africa’s economic crisis is not caused by a lack of resources, but by illicit financial flows, debt dependency and unequal global rules.

At AfCoDD VI in Nairobi, I called for Africa to reclaim its economic sovereignty. The continent loses about US$90 billion annually through illicit financial flows while spending roughly US$89 billion servicing debt. Between 1970 and 2018, more than US$2 trillion left Africa through capital flight.

This is not a financing gap. It is a haemorrhage.

We must stop illicit financial flows, reclaim resource sovereignty, reform the global debt system and strengthen social protection.

The time for action is now. The bleeding must stop.
