@artisanalanthro By the by, part of my struggle came from the #SunkCostFallacy and part came from a sense of responsibility towards people in the field.
The former was gone the instant I made the decision.
After 14 years, I’m still struggling with the latter. I feel like I let people down.
@artisanalanthro Went through a similar phase. In my case, dropping the PhD after 10 years (98-08) was among the best decisions in my life. Gave me back my serenity. Allowed me to act meaningfully.
Grad School often traps us into thinking that “everywhere’s the same”. Life can be good, outside.

@PodSquadInc I’ve taught ethnographic disciplines in IN, MA, TX, NB, Qc, and ON. Mostly as “contingent academic labour”. Also did a number of projects on the side, as a freelancer or collaborator.
I now work as a technopedagogical advisor in Montreal.
There’s something I never really articulated in academic contexts which is pretty obvious in my #fieldwork approach. A semi-appropriate name might be #EthnographerIntuition though many colleagues would balk at the concept. It’s close to “flair”. Comes from training, experience.
