Mike Babcock reflects on coaching Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, Morgan Rielly and William Nylander early in their careers:
“I was real fortunate, obviously. We had to do a lot of losing to get Matty [Matthews], I can tell you that. So that was a home run when we won that. We had Mitch Marner, we had Hyes [Hyman], we had tons of good young guys.
And I mean, we weren't a veteran team, and in the end we didn't get it done at playoff time, and so that's why I get a new address. For them, like you say, they're in their prime now. Mo's [Rielly] on the back end, a real good person. Played great for me, and I enjoyed coaching him.
Matty, it's always great to see his progression in the league and how good a player he is. I mean, he scored four goals, I think his first game in the league, but he's still come miles in that time.
Who else did you say was there? Oh, Willie [Nylanders], I mean, what unbelievable human being, can flat-out score. I watched him the other night, he was drilling it in the net and can fly.
William Nylander, what I always remember about him is he'd have a kids' thing or whatever, and he'd be the guy out there for hours playing with all the kids and doing all the stuff. He's a great, great person.
Him and Kap [Kasperi Kapanen] were good friends and were always at the same restaurant I was at night lots of times, so I saw them a lot. Anyway, it's great for them that they've had good careers and they're doing well.” #Leafs #LetsGoOilers

Fred VanVleet on when Kawhi Leonard got traded to the Raptors:
“I think it was two things, number one, what Demar meant to the team and to the organization, to the country, like to Canada at that time for us to trade him. First of all, we fired Casey first, then we traded Demar. So, like for the young guys, I’m going to only speak for the young guys. For the young guys at the time. That’s me, Pascal, Norman Powell, OG, you know what I’m saying? That was our little crew. So, we like, “Oh, this sh*t real now.” You know what I’m saying? Like, it’s real. Like, and they not cool with what we’ve been doing. So, it’s like, “All right, put you in a mindset.” The only thing that was fu*ked up was first report that came out was that he didn’t want to come. He didn’t want to be in Toronto. So, we like, “Damn, we traded our man for somebody that don’t want to be here.” So, that’s what we was on. But instantly it was like, “All right, well, it’s real now.” You know what I’m saying? We going for a chip. And so you start preparing like that. And then once we got him, he came to training camp. And that first day of training camp. I was like, “Yep, I know exact this is it. We going to win a chip.” Like it was in the air. You could feel it when you about to win a ring. Like you could feel it in the air. Everybody the trainer believe it. The security guard believe it. Like everybody believe it.”
