There are times when nothing happens for decades, and then decades unfold within weeks. The release of this male tiger into Rampachodavaram Division, within the landscape of Papikonda National Park, after his capture from the East Godavari district, has been one such moment.
Befitting the name “Explorer,” he has been traversing the landscape extensively, revealing places and patterns we had never imagined witnessing. Through the radio collar fitted around his neck and continuous monitoring using VHF telemetry, every movement offers a glimpse into the hidden life of the forest.
This initiative marks a historic milestone, as releasing and systematically monitoring a radio-collared tiger in the wild is a first in the conservation history of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
As the tiger moved across the terrain, he highlighted not only the magnificence of this landscape but also the deeper sociological dimensions of conservation. Ecological readiness alone is not enough; social readiness and the willingness of people to coexist with large carnivores are equally important.
Each movement reminds us that conservation requires preparing both forests and society to welcome the return of tigers to a landscape they have historically graced and rightfully shared with us.
