As good as Shane Steichen was, Brian Johnson might just be viewed as an upgrade because there isn’t another coach out there who understands Jalen Hurts more then Johnson does himself.
Their relationship dates back to when Hurts was just 4-years-old. Hurts’ dad coached Johnson when he was in high school.
Fast forward 10+ years and Johnson’s recruiting Hurts to play at Mississippi State and Florida, but Hurts committed to Alabama instead.
Another 5 years pass and this time it’s Hurts doing the recruiting.
Johnson was a successful play-caller at Florida and had potential opportunities to be a collegiate head coach. He passed those up to be the Eagles QB coach, reunite with Hurts and help him develop into a franchise QB.
Today, the keys to the Eagles’ offense has been given to Brian Johnson and he gets to have Jalen Hurts by his side to be QB1.
It’s an incredible story that’s really just begun.
