@IGGYAZALEA , you’re not Brazilian, but you have many fans here in Brazil and you’ve always shown so much love for our country. You’re also an artist known around the world, and over the years, you’ve shown your support for causes related to women’s rights and the LGBTQIA+ community.
I’ve been following you for 8 years, and those values have also been part of the reasons why I’ve continued to admire you throughout all these years. That’s why, as a Brazilian and as your fan, I feel like I need to talk about what we’re going through right now.
Brazil is entering another extremely important election period, and many people are worried about the future of the rights of minorities, women, and the LGBTQIA+ community. There are statements and positions from people associated with the Brazilian right that deeply frighten many people who belong to these communities. Recently, for example, statements made by people aligned with Flávio Bolsonaro about women sparked strong public backlash.
“WOMEN DON’T DIE BECAUSE THEY ARE WOMEN.” This was said in one of the countries with the highest rates of femicide in the world.
“Being homosexual is not normal. Being heterosexual is normal.” This was said in a country that has one of the highest numbers of killings of LGBTQIA+ people in the world.
This is not an obligation for you. You don’t have to talk about Brazilian politics, you don’t have to choose a side, and you don’t have to do anything for us.
This is simply a personal request from a Brazilian fan who has followed your work for years and believes that the values you have publicly stood for matter at this moment.
I just want you to know that there are fans here who are scared, worried about the future, and trying to protect their rights and their own safety.
That’s why we will be voting for LULA (13) this year, to preserve our freedom, our basic rights, and our very EXISTENCE.
Regardless of what you decide to do, thank you for listening to a Brazilian fan who simply wanted to be able to share what he is feeling. ❤️
🚨 Iggy Azalea says she’s considering spending the next 2–3 months intentionally writing and recording new music while things slow down toward the end of the year.
She's definitely coming! 👀
The world really does come full circle. Before “Fancy,” Iggy thought her career was over after failing to land a major-label deal. Little did she know she’d have her own label, Bad Dreams Records, and get to choose which label she wanted to be with.
Iggy Azalea says that after The New Classic, it became harder to write from a deeply personal place because she barely had time to actually live between projects.
She hopes to tap into that honesty again, like she did on “Don’t Need Y’all”, "Walk The Line" and “Rolex".
